Day to day life of an Armourer.

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Having just taken my BARB on Friday I've been asked to give my recruiting sergeant my choices. I have decided on my final three, which are Intelligence Operator, Armourer and Ammunition Technician but now I'm trying to decide in which order.

I was wondering if any of you could give me some insight into the day to day life(after training) of an Armourer ?

    Thanks.

  2. Type REME armourer into google. It is summed up quite nicely in the armyjobs link you will be presented with.

If I may be so bold, remove intelligence operator from your choices, you have clearly demonstrated a core skill - namely the ability to find simple information. ;)

  3. Drinking coffee, rolling fags, wanking over porn.

One of them is done more than the others!

  4. Try the search function, it's been covered before

  5. that's because smoking, and caffeine is bad for you ;)

  6. So is RSI!

  7. I have 2 hands :)

  8. Stop boasting, no one likes a show off!

  9. They are my choices also, but AT in second place! I think the latter two must be on their quota for jobs to suggest cause they where the first that the recruiter suggested. Lots of comp for INT CORPS, near enough every person who came in when I was completing my app where wanting to go INT. Im considering AT, didn't like the look of it at first with it being deemed as a bomb disposal role, but on further inspection, there looks to be a lot of testing and maintaining of different types of Ammunition. http://www.armyjobs.mod.uk/jobs/pages/JobDetail.aspx?armyjobid=RLC350/359&category=

Armourer is similar in that you are maintaining and testing weapons http://www.armyjobs.mod.uk/jobs/pages/JobDetail.aspx?armyjobid=EME100B/109B&category=

  10. Cloudbuster- Nail, Hammer, Head.

in response to the OP, having used the search function you will have no doubt discovered that life in a unit is as varied as the units themselves.
In an Armoured inf unit you would find yourself fixing small stuff, Warriors, CVRT's, or in the truly unlikely that there is nothing to do, helping vermin, filing bits of paper, doing the ASM/ Q man, Tiffy, Armr Sgt bidding.

It is a varied job, although the one constant is ranges, usually at inopportune times, such as when everyone else is adv trg!

  11. Or the brilliant idea of staggering the ranges/exercises out so a company spends a month in location, goes back to barracks to have some leave whilst the next company goes out and so forth. Then wonder why the one armourer in a light infantry battatlion starts swearing at anybody who comes near them. :)

Edit: Also, flash eliminators. Get used to them.
