Builds Dawning of the Wokka Wokka - Simmerits epic build of the 1/35 Trumpter Chinook.............

Just out of curiousity - have you considered finding some similar scrap rivet detail, using your filler and alcohol swab and then putting your paint scheme on to see how it looks?

I've noticed that some fillers are very absorbent and even after sanding leave a noticeably different surface to the surrounding paint.
If they stand out (and assuming that's also the case if you put a protective lacquer coat on over the paint too) wouldn't that mean you have some accurate rivet representation?

this stuff is good. The other thing is I’ll be applying the rivets over the top of these, so the white mark acts as a great marker

Just for the doubters.... i am on it

probably another two hours or so of filling to do before I can start to strip it back.

one minor disaster along the way

I’d knacked this previously and repairs it with super glue. The repair was shit. I’ll be using the UV curing dental glue to repair it which is a much better result. The undercarriage is really fragile. Not the best bit of kit Trumpeter have banged out.

leaving it for 24 hours now for the putty to go off

Bit of drift but just remembered a Chinook tale.

After the Falklands unpleasantness there was a Phantom and Chinook detachment down there on a four (I think) month rotation. One night in the mess a discussion by the F4 and Wokka crews led to a challenge. Which aircraft could get from “brakes off” to 10,000’ feet the quickest.

Next day, with one of the Chinook pilots in the back the F4 did its thing and got to ten grand rather quickly. Phantom pilot then sits on jump seat of Wokka for their attempt.

Wokka takes off into the hover and gently climbs to 9,980 feet where the pilot turns to his co-jo and says “brakes off please”...

Just when you thought I’d abandoned the Wokka!

as far as I can see, that’s all the rivets filled. Thank feck for that. Tomorrow is the start of cleaning it up with pure alcohol.

I’m going to have a crack at straightening the rotors now. As you can see, they are curved. Kettle of boiling water should soon sort that out

of of the three on the rear rotor head are done, so four to do then I’ll see how it looks

Well played, you want to nip that kind of silliness in the bud right away.

Happy with the rotors now. That was a right fanny on.

I have to say stripping this off in mind numbingly boring......

I’d hoped to have the whole airframe cleaned off this weekend but I think it will be just one side. I’ve had enough now so will finished the rest of this half tomorrow

Well this is one of those things I wish I’d never bloody started

But I’ll be glad I did when it’s finished.....
