David Richards' quote on Afghanistan specialists

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. A bit of crowd-sourcing (or laziness).....

I'm looking for a quote I believe Gen Richard's made about bending the Armed Forces effort to the current threat rather than 'a threat'. It went along the lines of

'would we have supported a young Captain, who in the days after 9/11, asked to learn Dari/Pashto and become an Afghanistan specialist?'

I believe it may've been connected to either Op Entirety or regarding strategic thinking. I've tried google, but with literally millions of hits in google (unsurprisingly!) on David Richards and Afghanistan, I'd appreciate any help possible!
  2. Have you searched on Rusi?

    RUSI -
  3. Much the same to be honest. I vaguely remember it coming from a lecture, but having read all his CDS' speeches on RUSI, I couldn't see it.
  4. Ok, another route....Media Ops Londist? In their Archives.

    Edit: iiss & thinkdefence?
