Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Do the lads get to take time off from the base in Cyprus and hit the holiday resorts for some good times with the ladies, etc? or is this a myth and in fact based in Cyprus is a twat.....

    Ask me in August. :D

(Posting, sorry Assignment Order arrived today! - I am so gutted!) :p

Actually it depends on the unit you are going to mate. Most of the troops work 0700 - 1645 Mon and then 0700 - 1330 Tue - Fri. Unless you are on duty then weekends are normally free, bear in mind that Ayia Napa is still out of bounds as well as certain areas in Limassol. Saying that though, socially the place is excellent, loads of things to do when off duty that are not just laying on the beach.

You might also want to have a look HERE.

Enjoy your tour and see you there!

  3. Are you going on a garrison or UN posting or just an OTX? If you're there for a proper posting, you'll find that Ayia Napa and some of the other hotspots are OOB and heavily patrolled by RMP and Cypriot CIVPOL. Outside of those places, there are still plenty of good places for a night out.

Life can be busy with guards and duties, OTX and deployments. As with all overseas postings, if you make the most of it, you can have fun. Good for watersports, paragliding etc if you get the time and can be bothered to get involved.

  4. There is plenty of opportunity to have a beer and mix with the holiday makers in Aya Napa.

Volunteer to go on a 'spotting' patrol with CJPU to try and recognise individuals from your unit being OOB.

Or alternatively, just go around the corner to Protaras which is in bounds and also has it's fair share of British slags meth'd on Bacardi Breezers.

You can take the girl out of Britain but you can't ..................etc etc.

  5. Regarding places being out of bounds in Cyprus..how can they prove you are a squaddie?.Providing you dont go as big gangs with short hair cuts.

Cyprus has many Brits on holiday there, so im sure a passport would be ok , just dont show your MOD 90.

  6. See my post above but to clarify;

Cyprus Joint Police Unit (CJPU) go into the OOB areas in civvie attire with servicemen (also in civvies) drawn from various units.

When you then spot a member of your own unit ( and if they are renowned cunts) you helpfully point them out to Mr Plod.

Fast forward a few days and OOB squaddie is hit with a fine equalling a months wages and / or posted off the island.

  7. They do sound like twats!

What about leave, surely they cant stop you going where you want then?

  8. If you are not posted to Cyprus but go there on holiday - no problem.

  9. So is there no plans for the British army to withdraw from Cyprus in the next few years (HOPE NOT)? If only we set up a base on the canary islands, Ibiza and maybe magaluf aka shag a slut the Army would see an increase in recruitment? Any more possible destinations?

Head off into Limmasol, good for the bars there. Rumours and step in are a good haunt. Also they have parties boats then head out from the tourist harbour on a Saturday night, from 11pm til 5am, good for the drinks, parties and ladies!

Ayia Napa, yes but staying out of the square. Paphos is a better tag to go on, Protaras is a crack but full of families peak season. Head down to Nissi beach if you want a beach party!

Groveners beach (by Larnaka) holds a lot of beach parties during the summer, big named D.J's and celebs are known to turn up.
