Any spares to go with them, one wonders.

All well and good but when are they going to bring in a modern Fire Control System? Scimitar is being let down by the fact it has no FCC.

The old work horse gets yet another new lease of life.

http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/DefenceNews.........

The Light Dragoons, based in Swanton Morley in Norfolk, will be the first unit to begin training on the new vehicles in early 2009.
I was at the 15/19H (LD) Association weekend in July and spoke to an RTR bloke giving a demo on the new gunner's sight. I was going to pass comment on this but it occurs to me its performance might still be classified? Anyone care to comment. I had just come out of looking at Bowman in the Command Troop Sultans, the only place on the day where they barred us from taking photos. I don't therefore imagine the gunner's sight is restricted, but I'll withhold comment until advised.

Anyway he reckoned the 104 new Scimitars were going to be the dog's dangly bits, completely redesigned and rebuilt for the Sandpit.

There have been any number (100’s) of modifications since CVR (T) Scimitar came into service in the early 70’s.

Some of the biggest and most recent changes have been:

1. Sight Periscope Infra-Red Equipment (SPIRE)
2. Enhanced Spire
3. Mine Blast Protection
4. Dieselisation (CVR (T) Life Extension Programme)
5. Tactical Navigation and Target Location System (TNTLS)
6. Bowman conversion
7. Addition of Composite appliqué armour
8. Addition of anti RPG Bar (cage) armour

ah, the add-on that makes the CVRT look like a small tank in a lock-up!

I was under the impression some Scimitar variants were also fitted with th BGTI site, possibly what AlienFM was shown. That is a pretty impressive bit of kit.

i heard somewhere that they are getting air conditioning, it sucks up the hot air (its placed right next to the engine for some reason) and blast it through 6 hoses (2 for each man) up their trouser legs or down their shirts!
