Curious about joining TA comms

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I may be asking a question you've heard for the umpteenth time but...

I'm a 30 year old ex regular. Three years in the infantry and 4 years in the Signals. Been out for about 5 years and was looking at maybe doing a bit of part time soldiering. The local Yeomanry won't have me (too old to them, but who wants infantry in their 30's? got bored of it in my teens )

So looking for signals based TA in the Swindon area. Been working for a well known telecoms mob in Swindon since getting out into Civ Div so I might be attractive to Corsham?

Any help ideas or the usual torrent of abuse welcomed :D
  2. Berkshire Yeomanry Signals Squadron at Brock Barracks in Reading I think is the nearest
  3. They would have you in flash mate. Give them a call and let the good time roll.
  4. Even if they are not the nearest, they do have quite a few guya and girls from the Swindon area. Pop along on any Tues night and speak to the recruiting team, explain your situation and they should bite your arm off, if they don't or you want more info PM me and I'll get them to call you. They have quite a few ex-regs and most of the troop went on Telic 1, make sure you ask for 94 Berkshire Yeomanry Signal Squadron at the gate or you might end up in the infantry who share the Barracks 8O

    Edited 3 times in total
  5. There is a specialist Signals unit for telecom people... pm me and I'll look up the contact details.
  6. 43 Sig Sqn in Bath has some guys from Swindon who attend regularly. Also if you facy a bit more of the Warry stuff with coms there is an FAC Troop, who have a few ex reg infanteers who got bored of digging in!. Pm me if you need any details
  7. If you were a real man, you'd join the Royal Regiment of Artillery!
  8. Ha ha go on, join the Wonky Donkeys (The guys from 41 will know what I mean).

Joking aside, 94 are a good unit, very committed Siggy's and good officers (although it kills me to say it). They always have a good turn out for Exercises etc. and for some unknown reason they always get to go abroad during Annual Exercise while the rest of us get eaten alive in some fly infested sess-pit in the UK.

This years Exercise is down nr Newquay so you're guaranteed a p*ss up at least one night.

The specialist Telecoms unit you referred to is 81 Sigs, but by the sounds of it you may be a little bored with them as I think they don't meet up that often and are predominately made up of BT 'Engineers'.

Give 94 a bell (but don't mention the Donkey).
  9. Thanks to one and all for your help, I've got some contact details so I'll let you know how I get on.

the_bat: Don't people join the artillery to compensate for inferiority in certain areas?
  10. Hairy Hacker,

I've had no complaints from your woman

But good luck with your choice, anyway. The more the merrier.
  11. Ah, 41 hows your OC?
  12. Seeing as the missus has just fallen preggers, can I get the CSA on the_bat seeing as he's owned up to the deed?

  13. Whoops!

You might be better off joining the Sigs, then. Getting in the way off some of their radio emissions will do wonders for your sperm count. Much easier than the snip.

Do feel free to call the young'en after me. "Bat_Hacker" - It's got a nice ring to it.

All the best to you both.

Right, well that's got being nice out of the way for today. So, I'll be off.
  14. Sapukay,

OC fine... I think... er, (shuffles to door) I'll tell him you were asking for him... (opens door and legs it)...
  15. There is a LIAG at Corsham too, Specialist unit who train rather a lot pm me for details if you can demostrate IT/Nwk Sy skills.
