What you (and I) saw was a poor CCTV video of a gang of youths wearing hoodies kicking another youth on the ground. They were too far away from the camera to make any sort of guess as to their nationality.

As far as Yuriy being an immigrant is concerned he may very well be as his mother's name is Nataliya Kruchenyk which is not very French. Yuriy is the Slavic version of 'George'.

There's plenty of footage of the scooter gangs in London who are prone to using hammers when they go to work, whether it's a house door , a car window or a person, they always appeared to have at least a hammer on each of them

Do we have full radar coverage of the coastline? If not why not? Drug smuggling, people smuggling, all sorts of things to watch for.

It's odd, but reading the cold war home defence thread, they are talking about how to counter a Soviet/Spetnaz port invasion. We had a plan for that, but not for this, and this is bigger and actual threat

I imagine that if they went blowing things up and spraying gunfire at vulnerable things would soon change. There whereabouts would also be known.

Because RIBs don't show up on radar. A 3 metre long rubber dinghy that's a few centimetres high doesn't really make a good radar target especially in traffic like this...

I know. RIBs used for things like rescue often have radar reflectors fitted to increase their radar cross section. However do all the RIBs and other small craft travel all the way from France, or do some of them launch from larger vessels?

I’ve always assumed that they’re found because there are a limited number of routes suitable for a small boat crossing. The trafficers aren’t planning a D-Day feint, just getting boats from A to B.

This has been used for a few months flying from Lydd Airport although I haven't noticed it recently. Given BF are able to meet and greet the boats in mid-Channel it's likely this is used to give prior warning of their imminent arrival.
