Craftsperson?

Wonder how long it will be before the poor sensitive hard done to ********* turn their attention to Woman & Women to get rid of those two gender specific words.

It’s not “PC shite” it’s just progression. Why is it not an issue if ‘females’ aren’t bothered? On that basis it must be ok to use the N word because black people do

I disagree, If it was progression there would be no need to mention (Depending on what version you are reading) females or inclusiveness unless its most of the females in the REME said they wanted it changed because the "man" part of craftsman is wrong.
As I said before, when this was raised in the past, women in the REME couldnt give a ****.
This looks very much like someone padding out his OJAR by showing how great they are to minorities even if those minorities arent asking for something.
The REME could have simply said Craftsman was a okay description in 1942 but it need modernising to be similar to civvie street (Toilet cleaner- Hygiene specialist, Clerk-HR Specialist etc) but then thats not going to get certain people noticed.

Ive notice another tactic so loved by those at the top, in post 17 part of the screenshot says "We now have a chance to consider a modern and inclusive alternative as part of our positive narrative moving forward".
Very subtly dropping the hint that if you disagree with any changes then you clearly arent modern, inclusive or positive.

All this hullaballoo over a rank, which in effect is an extremely small subset of the Corps.

I have yet to see an objection to the current rank, in the Association or at trade level groups.

Rem(arkabl)e.

How else are REME colonels supposed to get noticed.

I know quite a few from the association that have either sent an email or a letter expressing their views to the pillock that wrote the letter about nomenclature and also telling association members how irrelevant we all are in respect of this matter. Which casually changes of course, when they need your support, financing and sponsorship?

No not really as the ‚N‘ word is a form of abuse, and the last I heard ‘Craftsman‘ was never a form of abuse unless you’ve heard otherwise. It is entirely as you put it ‚PC shite‘. I have women working in my company as Managers, Facility and Project Managers we don’t have Manageresses anymore it is outdated and the male word has been adopted by females also without any great drama, similarly a few years back, actressess wished to just be called actors and by their own insistence. So where is the issue with using Craftsman for both sexes? How do you have female definition for Craftmanship, there simply isn’t one as it not gender specific, however it defines skill quality in a selected trade by whomever applies that trade. Therefore by derivative Craftsman can also be gender neutral as indeed manager is know. As I have previously mentioned the females working in my workshop were more than happy with the Craftsman title and refused to have it modified for them In any form. “Progression” does not necessarily mean dropping everything and any tradition just because you can or you feel obliged to by some woke movement, not all change is good or is without negative ramification.
N word is also used by some as a term of endearment, have you heard yanks of a specific societal area talk to each other?.
Which is completely out of context to what you are relating to, why would Craftsman be used as a form of abuse?
Thank you for a detailed unnecessary description.

You’re welcome, and thank you for the nonsensical comparison to the ‘N’ word in the first instance

The solution is to make 'craftsman' a gender, force all REME recruits to identify as that gender and change all their JPA records accordingly.

Then they can start all their correspondences and messages "as a craftsman" or "since transitioning to a crafstman", etc...

Until the next clown has to find something to occupy their obviously massive work schedule

Maybe get rid of the word Royal from their title as someone, somewhere might think its elitist.

…and more importantly, have they sorted out their biscuit admin yet?
Bearing in mind, biscuit-gate is what happens when you put splitarses in charge of Units and they surround themselves with other splitters. You get a royal chinning off of operational capability and a laser like focus on toxic bollocks and female career enhancement.

WRT to Craftsman vs Craftsperson - stick with 'Nonce'.

Yes why not, and the word Mechanical also while we’re at it, as the clown also thinks it is “old fashioned and agricultural” hence having to also rename vehicle mechanics with something else......? Wait a minute maybe the term engineer is somehow flawed also for some bizarre reason??? Possibly REME could go back to being the Army Service Corp???

Many years ago, while queuing for an RAF flight, I witnessed a young mover getting very confused over the documents of a CFN which he interpreted as GEN. It didn't last long but it was a joy to behold.

It's this sort of bollocks and self-serving policy change that has changed The Corps from a fairly dynamic repair agency to a bloated unskilled morass.

That was my belief when I left in 2011 and nothing I've seen or heard since has persuaded me otherwise.

It doesn’t really matter, does it? The REME and RLC will inevitably merge at some point, and then Craftsmen will become Privates. By then of course, you’ll need a degree to drive a truck or pull them out of ditches, so everyone will be educationally qualified to become officers. RMAS will be a 6 week course because nobody needs to be able to command a platoon to pull a truck out of a ditch, but the basic 6 week course will ensure inclusivity and diversity. Actual infantry officers will do a series of short courses geared toward their bn‘s role this week.

Somewhat tongue in cheek of course, but some of that may come to pass.

Totally agree. A great example of when everyone's special - no one is.

A bit like "Backload this work to ABRO because there's no training value in it."

"So you lose the capability of performing the most basic of tasks?"

Slow hand clap.
