CPU usage

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I have a 3.16 Ghz with 2Gb RAM and am running Firefox and Bitdefender.

I have kept my running processes down to 35.

I recently had some updates for firefox and Bitdefender. It takes forever to boot up.

Starts up and firefox, my home page comes up, then it whirrs away again and the CPU usage goes up. I am unable to access anything for a minute or two, sometimes I reboot with frustartion and it's like old times - 30 seconds and I can check my e mails.

I don't have a virus and I have run a registry cleaner, also delete my temp files regularly

Anyone have any similar problems ?

  2. What anti-virus are you using?

  3. Bitdefender? :D

  4. Oh yeah, I'm a mong.

Does the same thing happen when bitdefender is turned off?

  5. Never tried it, I am thinking that as I have had a number of bit defender updates recently, it's becoming a memory hog like Norton

  6. Disabled bitdefender and it boots up lightning fast. Need to look at some of the options within it. I think it's getting a memory hog with all the recent updates I have had, becoming like Norton :(

  7. Use Avast. It's free, google it. I use it, never had an issue.

  8. Or this one

Qute a lot of discussion on the web about which is better, this or avast. Nothing I found was conclusive, so I continue to use antivir. Seems to work fine in the ten years or more I have used it.

  9. Disabled a few things like auto updates etc, will check occasionally. Seems to work OK now.

Starts up in about 30 seconds now :)
