Cost of quarters

Hi all,

Looking for some help on working out the cost of quarters. Other half is in the process of re-enlisting after 8 years out. So will likely go back in at same rank (corporal). We have 4 kids. If he gets posted in the UK, probably Oxford or Aldershot, what would we be looking at paying for a quarter? Thanks in advance.

With 4 kids you would expect Type D SFA (7 person, 3 double bedrooms, 1 single)
Basic rent depends on house condition under the CAAS assessment from Band A to Then add on furniture charges if you have it furnished or part furnished.

Charges & Allowances

Corrected from type B for being a plonker

Don't you mean type D (4bedroom) - type B is 2 bed.
For the OP, be aware that rents for all SFA are expected to increase significantly in the years to come, to bring them in line with the civilian rental rates. All part of a wonderful initiative known as FAM (Future Accommodation Model). Designed to reduce the SFA Estate and associated running costs and to 'encourage' SP to invest in their own housing. Not helped by the inescapable fact that the generous arrangement with Annington Homes is coming to an end in a couple of years and they are expected to get a much bigger payout from the MOD on the contract in future years, also impacting on SFA rents. Sorry to p*ss on your chips!

That's what he has been told. He did over 12 years before coming out. He is just under 8 years out. And could be back in within 3 months.

Not at all. Any info is useful to try and work out costs. As I'd be commuting to London which is a big cost. But currently paying London civvy st rent which is crippling us especially with buggar all jobs paying him anything decent. I think we will still be somewhere in the region of a grand a month better off if we move into quarters. The bandings info is helpful as all those tables were really confusing. We have all our own furniture too.

If you are relying on him being a Cpl and receiving the wage then you might want to double check. It could make a big difference to your plans.

In what sense? Sorry, not sure what you mean.

It's doubtful he will resume his old rank, he may even have to complete phase 1 training again.

He has been told he won't have to do P1 again for certain. Rank TBC but he would be coming back in as a trained re-enlister. He wasn't discharged on any medical grounds or made redundant, and had an exemplary record. The rules and entry are a bit confusing between re-enlister and rejoiner - so we are just going on what he's been told as part of the application process so far. I think it depends on how in demand his particular cap-badge is. But they have said he could be back in within 3 months, so I guess all will become clearer pretty soon.
