Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Any recommendations which (Free) software does this fastest? No rocket science here, simply want to convert some movies for a long flight into a format that can be played on the ipad and understood for sync by itunes.

Prefered platform is Mac, but I do realise there is more on offer on Windows, so go right ahead and suggest.

  2. Handbrake is probably the best for this - HandBrake

  3. i use videora for my ipod not sure if it does ipads though

  4. CloneDVDMobile is my favourite for converting DVDs etc, if you want films as well as your .avi porn collection :)

it converts them into tons of formats, including iPad AVC (whatever that is). free 21 day trial and 20% off at the moment - SlySoft Products | Copy Movie DVDs with AnyDVD and CloneDVD

  5. For the PC to ipad, vuse does an ok job and imports them straight into itubes, if you dont have VLC on the ipad.

  6. There is VLC for ipad?

  7. I'm not sure if they (VLC themselves) pulled it from the App Store, but there certainly used to be.

Also use Handbrake it's free and very easy with good results.

  8. Using handbreak as we speak, slow as feck. A 22 minute episode takes an hour and half to convert! If VLC was available, that would solve all my problems, as it would play AVI! Just checked the app store, there is only a remote and a streamer (essentially to stream content from your mac/pc to the iPAd). That wont work for me while on an aeroplane, so back to fecking converting...

  9. I have VLC in my iPhone and it does play avi files but the quality isn't great and there is no option to fill the screen to full size. It also isn't official which is why it may have been pulled from the store.
The quality from Handbrake is top notch even if does take a while but you are able to queue a number of videos and leave it running.
