He'll almost definately be working as a supplier in their stores section then. There are usually a few of them at all units.

Did he think they were gonna make him work as a mechanic or something :?
As fieldDiscipline said, It will probably be due to the fact that at this current time there is no position for your sons chosen trade, but he will be of use elsewhere.
This has its advantages as he will learn new things. However it may be that he is going to be attached to that particular battalion as a supplier.
However your initial post was a little unclear.
At the end of the day, he will be sent where he is needed.

12 Battalion ?????

I would ask your son a few more questions!

As it is some RLC Sgt/WO in a REME Battalion is sweating that he might be getting a soldier who cannot remember the name of the place that he is going to live for the next 3-5 years! :D

Hardly the best advert for him on arrival
So he's a supplier, going to a REME unit; why do you think he will not be doing his job, they do have suppliers in REME workshops working in the stores section?

If you can find out which unit he's going to (and I don't think there are any secret ones in Germany) - then someone will be able to tell where they are. Failing that, check out the MOD website here:

That lists all of the REME units in the Army - that will give you a start.

How on earth will he get to where he should be going if he doesn't remember where it is :?
