Comrade Corbyn to the fore - whither (or wither) the Labour Party?

It would probably be option 2, there is no way Starmer could let her stay if she is guilty, the conservatives would mention it at every opportunity.

He could get her to quit, and then let her do a report into anti semitism in the Labour Party, and coincidently award her a peerage when the whitewash has been completed again

Apsama Begum trial scheduled to begin today at Snaresbrook Crown Court....she denies three counts of housing fraud.

A cynic might wonder if events will intervene to push it back, due to something like her or her defence being randomly 'pinged' at the last moment and having to go into isolation.

This has happened already!

Even if there is a by election Labour are sitting on a 60% majority there so although it will be embarrassing for Labour if she is found guilty they won't lose the seat.
Galloway must be watching this closely? he could put a spanner in the works? Also Labour are broke and another by-election could break their finances?

MPs only have to stand down if they are convicted of a criminal offence resulting in a prison sentence of over one year or more, I believe.

Realistically, even if she is found guilty it's unlikely to result in a custodial of that length, IMHO. Of course she may stand down as her personal integrity would have been found wanting, but frankly I doubt that will occur.

She was returned with a majority of over 28000, so it will stay Labour even if there is a by-election.

Of course, the laws requiring ID for voting may intercede between now and then which may have an effect on that majority.

They can be recalled if given a custodial sentence (whether or not it's 12 months or more) as well. Onasanya was given 3 months custodial and the recall process was triggered as a result.

This is a conundrum alright, let's assume she is found guilty but sentenced to say one month inside. Do we then see,

- her stick to her job like a limpet claiming she was setup
- a recall petition announced
- the required 1 in 10 do not vote yes, she continues to stick like a limpet to her job
- more than 1 in 10 do vote for a recall
- she announces she has been setup and returns as an independent or Galloway's local puppet, who also claims she has been setup
- the locals believing she has been setup vote her back in again on whatever ticket she is running on

Tower Hamlets is the kind of mess of a place where this could easily come to pass, it seems to be the model and byword for corrupt local politics and there is plenty of local desire to see that continue and little of the mindset that is about a more honest system. It is a lost cause with all the 3rd world shenanigans when it comes to the ballot box. You strike one crook down and there are plenty other crooks waiting to step right up to the plate, every one of them as corrupt as the day is long. Anyone with an ounce of visible integrity about them will stand no chance.

She could sit tight and blame it on a Zionist conspiracy, it would go well with her supporters

Section 1 sets out the circumstances in which the Speaker of the House of Commons would trigger the recall process, namely:

Hmm.. fraud seems endemic in that part of our "vibrantly enriched" part of the capital especially in that specific ethnicity!!
Remember this guy & his cohorts Lutfur Rahman (politician) - Wikipedia
snip "The Election Court officially reported Rahman to be "personally guilty" of "corrupt or illegal practices, or both" (electoral fraud."

That's why people like her, the Abbotamus and several other Labour MP's are elected .... Cough POSTAL VOTES!
These scum should be returned, along with their extended ( often benefit dependent) friends/family, to their original homelands where such practices are the norm!

Day 1 of the Corbyn Babes day in court.

It seems that Labour's obsession with the tokenism of having 'the widest possible debate' and their ostentatious need to allow anyone to vote for their next leader may have combined to produce one of the finest 'Oh sh1t' moments in British political history:

Jeremy Corbyn set to win Labour leadership, shock poll reveals

What can be done to stop the Corbyn juggernaut? What happens to British politics if Labour fails to do so? Is this one of the funniest self-inflicted wounds ever inspired by the Emperor?

I feel, after a shade over six years, we should bask in the glory of the original post...

Not much being said about the COnservative success in the latest by-election.... 18.5% swing to Cons, 15% away from Labour.

First the Jews, now the Hindus and Sikhs, who will Labour crap on next?...

You forget they are already also targeting the far left……….within their own party.

The real "working" class, who more often or not are voting conservative now, not the "benefit dependent" class (of all ethnicities) which is their main support group!
