Comrade Corbyn to the fore - whither (or wither) the Labour Party?

Labour merely need to get off the fence and change their stance based on public opinion to win the day. I think that they will do this to attain power.
I agree with a lot of your post, but take issue with this point. The combined Tory and Labour vote at the last General Election was almost 83% - for the only two Parties that included a commitment to leave the EU as part of their respective manifestos. So how can Labour change their stance? They may attract some Greens and Lib Dem’s if they commit to staying in the EU, but they will lose even more of their ‘traditional, core’ Northern vote, a significant majority of whom voted overwhelmingly to leave the EU in the referendum.
Whichever way you look at it, the country is divided and it’s a right buggers muddle.
Theresa May is making a complete mess of it, but do you seriously believe Jeremy will be any better and take the country with him?

All I've been doing is musing on what the electorate might do at the next election.

The whole thing is undeliverable in the timeframe and I'm sure that JC would bollock things up anyway.

My main thrust is that once the effects of brexit are felt, the electorate will swing enough away from the governing party that's presided over this mess and open the door for a socialist government.

JC may be unfit to govern, but if he happens to be leading the opposition when the music stops and the people become angry with the Tories for leading them into recession and mass job losses, then he's the man in the top job.

Democratic politics aren't a meritocracy

My bold.. you may have noticed over the past few years those "traditional, core, northern" votes are being replaced rapidly by the fastest growing ethnicity/religion in the UK and hence are becoming less relevant or influential on Labours policies.
It would appear to me than the opening of the flood gates under Blair and the subsequent rise in numbers of incomers are all part of the current Labour thinking, to eliminate the traditional British culture and replace it with a new Soviet style state. They are sadly forgetting/ignoring that the same ethnic/religious group has ingrained into their beliefs that their religion will take precedence over ANY other considerations and in a very short space of time these same complicit politicians of the left will be replaced by a THEOCRACY with everything being governed by sharia law.!!

That’s a very scary thought, but thankfully, if it comes to pass, I won’t be around to see it! Who knows what type of country this will be when (or if) our 4 grandchildren (all under 4) reach my age in around 2075?
Have to say, it would keep me awake at night, if I thought too much about it.

No. You're lying about what I said.

I don't want a Corbyn premiership.

I'm one of many who've voted conservative in the past finding themselves unable to support a governing party putting it's own infighting ahead of the national interest.

Brexit will bring down the government and end the current parliament sometime in the next year, as things finally come to a head.

The next GE will be fought on brexit.

Labour merely need to get off the fence and change their stance based on public opinion to win the day. I think that they will do this to attain power.

This may well result in the double whammy of a ruinously socialist economic policy combined with the disaster of a hard brexit.

I may be derided for this view but back in 2016 the arrse consensus was for a 100 seat majority for the conservative party. We know how that panned out.[/QUOTE]

Unfortunately you’re right. Labour will pick up the bones of Brexit and get into power. For no other reason than the county will be sick of the Tories. All Labour needs to do is bide it’s time.

That's my thinking if it happens, I've moved to rural Wales and it won't happen here in my lifetime if it ever comes to pass

Worst case if society breaks down, I'm surrounded by natural resources

Yep, what I said but more concise.

The pendulum always swings back

Whilst I find your hysteria amusing and delicious, Sharia law, Islamic state etc, it's worth pointing out that whilst EU immigration has been falling since 2016, non EU immigration has been larger for a decade.

Whatever government is in power, they realise that turning off the immigration tap is damaging to economic growth and will keep net migration in the 100'sk per year regardless of social consequences, since this isn't a metric that a governing party is measured by, unlike GDP, growth etc.

Labour could implode, in which case TMPM wil call an election PDQ.

John Woodcock: Corbyn is a security risk, says MP who quit Labour

Truth is that both parties are riven by factions to either extreme, in parliamentary politics, of their respective leaning. Interesting times, still.

She called an election PDQ last time; got caught with her pants down. Not a pretty sight.

Corbyn has been the boogie man when it comes to other voters. I think that image is wearing off. He's a dick, but he polls consistently. The Tories (or any opposition) should be focusing on his even more poisonous comrades. Only then will we see Labour disappear.

Agreed.
McDonnell is truly dangerous.

In the event that a Major Political Party like Labour actually did 'disappear' , what would replace them do you think. The advent of another Centrist Party seems illogical given the Liberals occupy that position ,which could leave a Conservative Party without any Opposition what so ever. Whilst lots of people think that would be good ,destruction of the main Opposition Party could lead who knows where. Can't really see it myself ,so suck it up Labour may have the next Govt for 5-10 years but the Tory's will take over again in time, unless the Liberals rise again. That is British Political history mainly 2 terms and then all change but no matter what ,the sun will still rise and bears will still defecate in the woods.........
