Compromised - a Special Forces soldier kidnapped by the IRA

#1
Evening,

My name is Derek Keyte - I served with the Army during the 1980s through to the early 1990s in Northern Ireland amongst other places.

My debut novel, Compromised, has been downloaded over 80,000 times on Amazon since October 2011 and I've been using it to support Help For Heroes - the download is currently free.

I've had some very kind reviews (4.7 stars out of 5 on Amazon) and some comrades who experienced the Province have been kind enough to contact me and tell me that they've enjoyed my work.

So here it is on Amazon and here is my website.

I hope you get a chance to enjoy my debut novel - cheers.

"Compromised is the story of a British Special Forces soldier kidnapped by the IRA...the terrorist who swears to break him...the friend who refuses to abandon him...the establishment who rejects him..."

Derek, pardon my ignorance, but if it's a free download how does it generate revenue to support Help for Heroes?

I'll browse your book and if it entertains I'll even buy a copy.

Whilst I don't 100% control Amazon's pricing of ebooks they have been kind enough to list my book for free for most of the time since I published it (which is what I wanted) - I ask readers that they consider a voluntary donation to H4H: certainly people that I know personally have been more than happy to give something.

H4H are aware of what I am trying to achieve and their messages have been supportive.

At the end of the day I'm not naive enough to think that every one of the 80,000 people who have dowloaded it have given something - but if only 1% give a fiver that's 4 grand: of course neither I nor H4H have any way of knowing how this has gone.

The alternative was to charge for the book - the problem here is that for any book priced up to £1.99 Amazon keep 70% of this, so it made sense to try and publish for free, hope the reader enjoys and is moved to make a donation.

Cheers again.

Downloaded last night and hooked already. Defo better written that anything "he must must not be named" has written. At least this books got some depth to it.

Well done Derek. Keep them coming.

P.s as I'm a H4H coordinator i'll stick some money in the pot.

Got this from Amazon, read it. £5 en route to H4H.

The book's interesting and well-plotted and certainly rocks along. The context is well-developed, even with the occasional silly mistake - AAC flying Pumas, that kind of thing - but if you're going to go all warporn over HK53s and SIGs, you need to get all the details right. The feel of NI in the late 80s and early 90s is bang-on. Even the 'Ra are believable.

One could make an educated guess at to what the author was up to during his military service.

Got it, read it, finished it today. Thoroughly enjoyed it, smacks of authenticity too apart from odd little relatively minor errors. Only criticism I might make is that it was flagged quite a long way from the finish what would happen.
That said I will watch for future efforts from this author.

Downloaded this a a few months ago, cracking book that I genuinely couldn't put down, I'm not from the NI generation but it smacked of authenticity and you have a very enthralling writing style.

As you say the reviews on Amazon speak volumes. Next?

Personally I would definitely pay for your next book but I appreciate your sentiment and will equal it.
