Not sure where militarism fits in with the EU.

For donkeys years, the continental countries have indulged in the ego trip of militarism, which is why the place has been comprehensively trashed so many times over the past decades/centuries - with little beneficial effect to any of the participants.

Understood, and there is a lineage all the way back to Napoleon for most of it.

But my point was the EU, sold as a free trade block, has too many disparate interests to get involved in mutual militarism. Gibraltar being a good case. Is Spain going to use one of its battalions to defend Gib from...... Spain?
