Comfort Box for Bosnia

#1
Just trying to fill my comfort box for Bos and I'm running out of idea's, so far I've got a quilt, single 15 tog, toiletries by the tonne, speakers for my laptop but what else?

P.S. I got all the "frankie vaughan" I need on me laptop, which will also play DVD's.

First thing in the comfy box needs to be a fancy dress outfit, second needs to be another one and then a dress for all the parties. Then loads of civvies and PT kit - Banja Luka and Sarajevo both had decent gyms the last time I was there (03) and you can spend a big part of your day in there if you're that way inclined. The PT kit you take, you will probably end up throwing away at the end of your tour.

Forget the toiletries - there are loads of shops on camp selling them if you don't mind the bog standard Gillette, Lynx and Radox.

Take your DVDs but there are facilities to sign out fairly up to date DVDs and computer games. All of the Corimecs were plumbed in for Sky/Cable so you may wish to take a 14" TV (no requirement for anything bigger) in your comfy box. If not there are usually loads floating about for sale or the shops will sell them cheap as chips.

The 15 Tog duvet will be roasting in the summer but lovely in the winter.

You will probably get your R&R before Chrimbo so you'll be able to bring out all your decorations then.

Hope this helps.

Vermin,
FWIW, you can sign out a decent duvet and bedding from the bedding store when you get there, so there' sno need even for that idea if you want to travel light!
I reckon the best thing I took last year was a fishing rod and a supplyof decent marmalade - got to ahve something that make you think of home and smile each morning <grins>.
Most of the singlies came back dreading moving back into block accomodation - the corriemecs with all their welfare add-ons meant a better package out there than at home.
Enjoy it, and stay safe,
BtH

<Swings lamp>
The last (and only time) I was in Sarajevo we were still using water out of Jerry cans, having power cuts all the time, patching the holes in the walls with black nasty to keep the rain out etc etc

It seems to have changed a little bit since then.

Still thinking about it it was 10/11 years ago that I was last there. :p

When did this comfort box thing start - never heard of it before. If you could not carry it you could not take it in my day.

If he's taking a lap-top,why not get a adaptor cable to connect the laptop to the Sky box. I've seen them used & you can get them from PC world or Maplins,Easier than carting a tv around.

Apparently TV's are available as part of the welfare package, 1 TV and DVD player per corrimec!

Unbelieveable I know, I feel like I need to volunteer for a real tour when I get back but as they say, "any **** can be uncomfortable!"

I saw the packing list on a comfy box for one of my blokes about 4 years ago.

All it said was:

"Fancy dress rig and climbing gear"

Take toiletries, yes you can buy them there but they are more expensive (yes, i am a pad).

Quilt definitly, the ones from the QMs tend to walk out of the corrimec if you don't stun them when you get out of bed in the morning.

Laptop yep sorted, make sure you hve plenty of disk space, and some sort of plug adaptor (it is two pin out there).

A cd thingy that takes the scratches off is a good idea. Most of the cds in the brit house seem to have been used for brake disks at some point.

A kettle for the corrimec, toaster and toasty machine too if you please.

Pillow is good, some books, favourite dvds, wooly hat, Get your mrs/significant other/mum/GF or what have you to send regular parcels out.

extension cable (esp if you are from UK with 3 pin equipment) is handy.

You sign a tele and dvd player out when you get there, one per cori mec. So play station or siilar can also be taken.

Gym kit yes, if you don't come back massive you have done somehting wrong.

Sense of humour, there is a whole Bn of Dutch there now as well.

My bold, scratch the toasty machine and take a George Foreman, they make far better toasties as well as being able to cook other stuff.

Maybe your head for starters, What farking advice can you give anyone about overseas tours when you still live with your mum and dad and have spent a few months in halls of residence annoying your fellow inmates....

Winter tour take a good stout pair of wellies, there's no sheep but plenty of leaking sewers.
