    Ahem.....

    WHAT ?
Combat Stress , (the Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society) is holding a street collection.

    WHERE ?
in and around the Chantry Centre in Andover, Hants.

    WHEN ?
    from 09:30 till 1700 on Saturday 11th June 05.

    WHO ?
Goatman and another CS supporter from the area . We are also looking for five extra helpers to stand with a tin for an hour or so. If you have a little time to spare and would like to help out plse PM me. I'll put the organiser in touch with you to fit you into the roster (and ask your chest size  )

    WHY ?
to quote from their excellent website at http://www.combatstress.org.uk/home/default.asp:

Since the end of World War 2, the vast majority of the British People have known nothing but peace. But it's been a very different story for the men and women of our armed forces. Time and again, they have been in the front line defending Britain's interests. In Brunei, Borneo, Indonesia, Malaya, the Falklands and the Gulf. More recently, they have played a central peace keeping role in the Balkans, Cambodia, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan and elsewhere. And closer to home, many thousands have been involved during the thirty year long campaign in Northern Ireland, an operation that has perhaps been the most difficult and dangerous of all.

Each of these conflicts, without exception, has resulted in psychiatric casualties. And for many who are affected, the problems may take years, perhaps decades to surface.

The Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society, COMBAT STRESS, exists to serve these men and women. For over 80 years, we have been the only services charity specialising in helping those of all ranks from the Armed Forces and the Merchant Navy suffering from psychological disability as a result of their service.

HOW ? ....Red Man build small fire - keep warm. White Man build HUGE fire - keep warm fetching sticks.....

Big thanks to Plastic Yank for shaking a tin and to the good folk in Andover who put their pennies in the boxes on Saturday, particularly if you were one of them.

The organiser says we raised £207 for Combat Stress which made it a worthwhile way to spend a couple of hours people watching.

Lots of serving pers, Army wives pushing prams and even a couple of guys who are due to rejoin their units next week on Telic.

( Given the fact that I'd chosen to wear the Combat Stress Tshirt over desert DPMs and boots , surprisingly little hostility really 8) I had at least shaved and the bottle of Diamond White topped off with meths was nowhere to be seen....)

The organiser says she may be running another collection in Winchester between now and Christmas. Any ARRSE folk who would like to take part
( no dress code !)please let me know and I will fwd your details.

Good on yer and thanks to all who contributed,

    Le Chevre :)

  7. Has she thought of doing it in Salisbury or Warminster?

From the look of the lady in question, there are few places she hasn't at least THOUGHT of doing it......why? Are you a potential volunteer ?
