Combat Engineering with Geo/CMT?

I passed selection last month and I am currently waiting for my Geo Tech Aptitude tests. CMT is my second option if I fail that.

From what I have read, these two roles can be restrictive on combat engineering. Will I be able to do any after training or will I be mainly behind a desk?

I have also recently seen that RE have taken over the CBRN role from the RAF and made a new regiment for it ( 28 ). How exactly could you get involved in this? Would you have to inform someone of your interest in joining, or is it just somewhere you are put without choice?

Cheers.

You will work alongside knockers when deployed. Barracks routine will see you desk bound.

The story about 28 was published on 01 April.

If you stream Geo you will not do any combat engineering. 42 Geo Regt is very specialised:

CMT will see you serve in Field units, and so there is a good chance that you will get to do some combat engineer stuff.

Note also that ME Survey is not the same as Geo. The former will serve in the mainstream Corps, the latter almost exclusively in 42 Geo Regt.

Possibly worth expanding "CMT". Even when it was Cons Mat Tech, it was pronounced CMT.

Theres a world of difference between strangling moles and applying bandages.

If you get posted to an STRE you will only do the Artisan trade which you have qualified in ( eg Eng.Svy, CMT, Draughtsman Elec or Mech ).

If you get posted to a Field Squadron you will rarely/never do your Artisan trade.
But you will do loads of Combat Engineering.

Geo don't do any Combat Engineering.
