Climate Change: Scientists Say "Last Chance"

I'd rather believe in institutions and top Universities than posturing by some random person on a forum.

This is from my own Uni, a top10 school in the U.S.

"Earth's climate has experienced tremendous change throughout Earth history, from ice ages to greenhouse worlds, and is currently undergoing unprecedented warming due to human activities. The Climate Change Research Group at the University of Michigan"

The list of Unis and top rated agencies like NASA goes on and on.....but it's all fake news right? Keep hallucinating.
Well they would say that would they not, the implication being (perhaps):

'More research (and funds) needed'.

The head of the environment agency on the radio this morning. All the flooding we have had is all due to the “climate emergency” - his words. So nothing to do with changes in land management, reduction in drain maintenance, new builds on flood plains or the failure of infrastructure.
It is quite interesting, isn't it, how many of the flooded properties are new builds (where rivers spate where they have done for centuries), or up/downstream of recently built flood defence schemes (where rivers can no longer overflow where they have done, but find the next weak point)

But this is coincidental, and the cause is "climate change".

A Mr Haddock was interviewed yesterday,(don't know where he was) he was saying he bought a house by a river and thought his feet might get wet at some point. His main gripe seemed to be that one end of his town had been protected, his end had not.

Analysis by the Global Warming Policy Foundation has found the cost of reaching the Government’s “Net Zero” carbon emissions target will be astronomical for the UK economy. The cost of decarbonising the electricity system and domestic housing alone in the next three decades will cost over £2.5 trillion pounds. This soars to over £3 trillion when manufacturing, transport and agriculture are included equivalent to £100,000 per household or £100 billion every single year.

The reports set out the “stark” conclusions that there are relatively few avenues to strip out carbon from the economy, leading to inevitably drastic measures in a short amount of time, such as stripping out all gas central heating systems in the country.

They’re going to need a few more money trees!

It excuses idiots.

Just a thought for the climate change pundits on here. Assuming we spent £3Trillion on green energy, electric cars, the zero emission dream. How would we know it had worked?

Good point, well made.

While it is possible that I may still be breathing by the year 2050, I wouldn't like to bet money on it :D :D

Whoops

While today the Antarctic is covered in ice, it was once a swampy rainforest with an average temperature of 12 degrees celsius, scientists have discovered.

The study, published in the journal Nature, found that once upon a time the area had a much more temperate climate around 90 million years ago - similar to that of parts of New Zealand today.

Wait! This cannot be right, the earth has always been just like it is now, frozen at both poles etc. etc. It can never have been warmer or cooler because the science is settled, man is warming it up. Next you'll be telling us that polar bears are normal bears that have evolved, over time, to live in arctic conditions, which is just preposterous.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Old journo saying, which also comes in handy for politicians.

Have you heard of plate tectonics? What latitude and climate produced the white cliffs of Dover?

because I don’t think many scientists believe the earth has always been like how it is now. Only flat-earthers and creationists.

Arrsers would be living the dream in the mid-Cretaceous - most of (what is now) the EU was submerged under water. Mind you, so was the Southeast of England.

Pretty similar latitude to now, but climate was totally different. The European chalks were laid down in the Cretaceous

Its cyclical and everyone knows it - however theres 2 myths used to ridicule the other side

1) Advocates completely ignore the fact the world changes temperature
2) Deniers are ignoring the fact that climate has changed in the past

The real argument revolves around whether man is (or will be) responsible for a permanent change in the base level eg instead of the cycles moving between -8 and +20 it will be -5 and +23 - coupled with a debate about how much Impact this will have.

Sadly both sides chuck out pseudo arguments and emotive imagery whilst cherry picking facts - meaning theres far more chaff than wheat in any debate

I do not believe that to be the case.

The real argument is how much man is exacerbating climate change, it gets brushed under the carpet because the solution is very unpalatable, both from a mankind angle and a global capitalists angle.

To sustain rampant capitalism requires rampant population growth. The Earth's resources getting increasingly raped to provide the resources for the increase in population and increase in capitalism.

This combined is exacerbating climate change.

That is conflating how much man is or is not exacerbating climate change with whether anything should or should not be done about it.

it is perfectly possible to believe mankind is causing climate change but want to do nothing about it.
