Climate Change: Scientists Say "Last Chance"

Indeed.
The hypocrisy of the green lobby is rather impressive, they assume the moral high ground and claim to be unassailable when they're no less averse to taking a free junket to somewhere nice than anyone else.

Isn't it time to trot out that graphic of all the predictions that utterly failed to materialise? The one with all the predictions of doom and gloom. I'm sure that someone has it to hand and it's still very much on point.
The ulimate was of course (sorry if it has been mentioned) the 100% cobblers big fly in and giant yacht sail-in and lecture the poor people that was the Google mutual circle jerk camp or indeed any of the COP (out) regular shindigs.

As per some of the XR and stop oil crowd, happy to fly all over the globe and do stuff themselves, but then anyone else is a evil pariah if they dare drive 20 miles up the road.

What ever happend to "lead by example" ?

Handy conflation of of climate and plate tectonics.

Yes, some people try to suggest that, but one begets the other.

The funny thing is, the local climate and living conditions get harder if your house is under water, or if you are suddenly in a lava flow…………I’ve heard active volcanoes can be a bit smoky too ;)

At a rough guess, I’d also say the break up of Pangaea affected the climates of the inhabitants too :)

But of course, you had seen my post related to a local area, and not the whole planet :)

I had indeed.

The conflation remains. The begetting is not entirely simple.

Now that a combination of scrappage schemes, Euro6+ engines and the switch to EV have driven vehicle emissions so low that they are barely noticeable the anti Car Lobby and their fellow travellers the Anarco-Socialist/Climate Emergency woo peddlers have had to switch their tact...

The TYRES who will save us from the TYRES!

Of course in a society where air quality is improving and life expectancy is increasing their arguments are questionable especially when you consider the double speak:

“Tyres are rapidly eclipsing the tailpipe as a major source of emissions from vehicles,” said Nick Molden, at Emissions Analytics, the leading independent emissions testing company that did the research. “Tailpipes are now so clean for pollutants that, if you were starting out afresh, you wouldn’t even bother regulating them.”

Think about that for a moment, what that actually means is emissions are so low that their sensors can only pick up the tyre particles now!

In other words the car industry has succeeded in doing what they have demanded and now they have to spin a scare story about the very low particulate output of the tyres!

Idiots....

Yes and no, the tyres won't be blamed for substantive quantities of CO2 (or plant food as I think it should be termed).
That Guardian article is as ridiculous as expected, anything to perpetuate the climate alarmism. There's a whole generation of kids that have been indoctrinated that the world will end in X (insert number to suit your agenda) years if the evil of the Western world aren't stamped out (yes we all know that China outputs far more, but that's glossed over) and Marxism reigns in glorious perfection.

Are we really saving the planet by going green, with all the waste from the ever-increasing number of turbines
needed, and their replacements.
As millions of turbines are required, we will have to keep replacing them as they wear out,
the same with any battery storage, and solar panels with every country doing the same,
The world is going to need an extremely large amount of copper and rare earth materials.
There is going to be an awful lot of scrap.
Are we in fact just replacing one form of pollution with another

And don't forget, you'll own nothing but be happy.
But not as happy as the guy whose gear you keep renting will be....

Was it really 40 odd years ago "they" were trying to convince us that we were heading towards a catastrophic new ice age?? How time flies...

In the 80s there was a Panorama programme demonstrating quite clearly how Saint Maggie, confronted with evidence of an impending ice age, told scientists to come up with a counter argument, which they chose to be Global Warming. I remember it vividly.

But search the BBC archives for this one episode, guess which one isn't there among every other down the years.

Hmm.

In preparation for a meeting of relevant ministers, Richard Wilson, the Cabinet Office head of the economics secretariat, summarised for Thatcher the policy options.121 Likewise George Guise sent a set of comments.122 He followed this commentary up with two pages selected from a report that had been sent to him by George Porter, the President of the Royal Society; one page suggested that sea levels might rise and the other that they might fall.123 Emphasising the doubt, Guise told Thatcher that it ‘reinforces my belief that we cannot formulate a robust policy until scientific advice is more consistent. The priority therefore continues to be more research, analysis and computer modelling’.124 Guise later also questioned the assumption made in a paper for ACOST on adaptive biology that climate change might lead to a warming of 5 degrees Celsius (he drew Thatcher’s attention to the National Academy of Sciences consensus of 2 degrees Celsius). However, Guise also went further, hinting that perhaps causation was not shown at all:

a recent paper from the AT&T Bell Laboratories, gives a thorough statistical analysis of the evidence for correlation between CO2 increase and global warming. … CO2 and temperature demonstrate correlation between 1958 and 1988 but the paper warns against the conclusion that there is a causal link. This work is useful in combatting the more hysterical arguments that the present climate problems are all part of greenhouse warming. John Mason would approve!125

A second, clearer case of the ‘merchants of doubt’ strategy at work is Charles Powell’s forwarding of a pamphlet from the George C. Marshall Institute.126 Powell, as adviser and gatekeeper to Thatcher, is a particularly important carrier. Adding that its ‘authors are eminently respectable’, his summary of the Institute’s argument again brings uncertainty to the fore:

Against the current fashion, it predicts that, far from warming the earth in the next century, the greenhouse effect will have the benign effect of halting a new mini-Ice Age. It argues that there are far more powerful forces acting on the earth’s atmosphere than man-made pollution, principally the periodic brightening and dimming of the sun. If past patterns are followed, the sun is likely to be less active in the 21st century than in the current one, and this would lead naturally to a cooler earth. ‘It is possible … that the combination of natural and solar variability is the cause of the entire temperature increase of 0.9 degrees F observed since 1880 with the greenhouse effect relegated to a negligible role.’ The report also points out how difficult it is to make accurate predictions of the greenhouse effect because of the highly variable effect of ocean currents and cloud cover.127

It must really hurt them to travel via aircraft while they spread the good news.
How could you be so insensitive to bring that up, cant you see the tears in their eyes as they try to put a brave face on it ?

Anyone else watching 'Politics Live' on the BBC regarding the Climate protests?

That Anna lass epitomises the shouty lunatic lefty fringe.

Sensible chap - 'People in the UK need to heat their homes with affordable energy this winter using fossil fuels as we transition to the greener stuff'

Anna - 'But what about the 4 million Bangladeshis suffering floods?!'

As they cannot be recycled, the old ones are buried as land fill. Brilliant!
