Climate Change: Scientists Say "Last Chance"

Again due to the fact this island is vastly overcrowded.
Overcrowded/Over-populated its the cause of climate change and you reduce the effects by reducing population, so half the population you halve global emissions. Once you look past the Gas Boiler versus Heat Pump puppet show debate, you realize our governments are working flat out to try and reduce the birth rate through a myriad of clandestine policies and it wouldn't surprise me at all that someone did the math and worked out a person has xnum of children in africa, but living in europe they're have ynum of children, so open those borders.

In 1999 we had a bloke start working for us. he had previously been a gvmt employed inland water engineer.
Blair laid half of them off as we didn't need them.
Not just them either. When the water companies were privatised they laid off all the workers whos job it was to keep the gullys and small stream that fed resoviors clear as they were seen as an unnecessary expense.
Fast forwards a few years and there is a lack of water in the chain during hot summers and when it rained heavily the gullys/streams that used to take the water away were overgrown and flooding of the landscape occured.

Whilst this was a Greenpeace policy 40 years ago it makes little sense now unless we cut down on benefits big time.
1 child get benefits , 2 or more and you get none.

Couldn't that have a consequence of people choosing to only have one, which could exarcerbate the aging population issue?
That is going to happen.
This can be solved by putting up the retirement age.
The original age of 65 was Bismark's idea most German males at the time died at 66.
I am 69 and still plenty fit enough to work.
But as I don't need to I don't.

Telling them the climate has been changing for around four and a half billion years may lead to a fit of the vapours.
Absolutely correct. Anyone who has done any study of the phenomenon will, or should, accept that. What does, however, seem to be the case, and strongly supported by evidence, is that human activity is accelerating the pace of change.

Better yet, no child benefits at all, and benefits only for those who can't work ( through sickness or disability), not for those who won't.
Equally, with migration and asylum, by all means allow them into the country, but give them nothing. No housing, no food, no clothing, nothing. That 10,000 paid to some trafficker doesn't look so clever then, does it?
Foreign aid, abolish it, along with namby pamby ideas about educating girls in places where the culture denies that, and similar nonsense that wastes our resources trying to make " them" more like "us", rather than accept that their ways may be more suitable to their conditions.

Recently reports suggest that, by using new tests, Downs could be eliminated in children soon? Perhaps more realistically we're concluding that earlier generations understood better that allowing weaklings to survive undermined the survivability of the whole clan or tribe?

I personally have one reservation with that.
I worked with Downs people before I joined up and have friends with some very delightful Downs children.
My personal view.

As does the next volcano to shit itself. What we fail to realise as humans is just how insignificant we are. The earth doesn't care. 4.5 billion years of existence makes our little blip just that, a blip. Piss in our little paddling pool and when we're gone no one will even know until the next sentient (ha!) species on this rock strokes its ego over our remains and wonders when we stopped eating each other.

At the end of the day, we exist to pass along our DNA, much like any other species. How we do that is a matter of supreme indifference to the universe.

I too have experience of friends with Downs children. Generally delightful as children, changing into strong but violent teenagers, often at the stage in life when their parents are no longer fit & healthy enough to control them. They then frequently become a burden on the State. It's unintentionally cruel.
Most of us now retired will remember stories from childhood of Mrs X's newborn being put aside to die, due to some abnormality or deformity. Those views came to be viewed as cruel and uncompassionate, but were, I suggest, based on long term practicalities.

And in 7 billion years our Earth will be destroyed by the Sun when it turns into a Red Giant.
And some time later the Universe may contract back into the Cosmic egg to start all over again.
We really are insignificant.

I first came across Down adults when I worked in a hospital for the Mentally Subnormal, violence was not a factor with them.
Other patients yes, Depot training was a doddle compared. And far better paid.

Once again.

Not 'causing' but 'accelerating'.

I had a friend who worked as a contractor at US bases in the late 1980s, and he said a work colleague was denied the highest level of clearance, with no reason given, however he was a member of Greenpeace, which may well have accounted for this.

My wife used to work for the security Office for a Nuclear organization. They got a temp in one day from another department that was supposed to have been vetted. When my wife and her walked out to the carpark at the end of the day, the temps car was splashed with Greenpeace stickers.

My wife mentioned it to her boss the next day.
A few hours later, HR arrived and she was relived of her pass and the Nuke Police escorted her off site.

We have no idea why, but I guess someone missed something

Quite. As does the odd volcano shitting on the carpet. It's cyclic. Always has been. That we have an effect in many areas is undisputable. That we mean absolutely nothing and have pretty much zero long term impact except in our own view when seen from an erg in the Sahara is clear.

Some years ago I mentioned, on arrse, that my stepdaughter had come home bruised and battered from her job in a care home, where a resident/ patient had already battered one member of staff unconcious, smashed through a fire door to get to stepdaughter, then attacked her before throwing her down the stairs. Willow thin teenager vs 20 stone nutter.
Except, he was both blind and deaf from birth, and although aged 40 had a mental age of about 3.

Somewhere, someone, needs to decide which takes preference: his supposed right to life, or the right of society to choose not to support him.?

To me the real tragedy has been the first world focus on changing things

So we’ve seen perfectly functional coal fired power stations in the U.K. & Europe closed down and replaced with gas, solar and wind infrastructure

When it would have done much better to keep ours going till end of life and focused on building that solar and wind powered infrastructure in second and third world countries where it would have transformed health and quality of life for billions of people. Shifting them away from burning wood and dung for fuel, brought in cheap and efficient lighting and refrigeration, powered water purification plants etc. - plus of course education, computers for schooling and so on.

And of course, all the data across the developing world shows us that better health, clean energy, sanitation and education all result in lower birth rates.

Everything now is coded language and 'population control' is now: 'sustainability' and in a perverse way, I preferred the evil of the past and its overt nature was at least clear. Today, the banality of evil is hidden and explicitly covert and these future generations we need to save the planet for, are going to be subjects of the planet rather than its ruler.

If you think, for one moment, that humans rule the planet, you really should seek psychiatric help.
