Chindit Jack Osborne, RIP

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Some of the obits I read seem almost works of fiction, and this is another of those. Survived the Burma jungles to live to 103. Didn't say what his rank was, though.

    Jack Osborne - Telegraph

Another, older obit on the same page was that of Captain Charles Upham, VC and Bar!!!
Stuff me! There can't be many of those about.
  2. Just the three...Upham and the two docs, Martin Leake and Chavasse.
  3. I liked the bit about: "...served with the Chindits behind enemy lines in Burma, commanding Nigerian troops with “slashed cheeks and filed teeth” who had been recruited from their country’s jails."

They didn't train you for that at Sandhurst!
