China (not a great bunch of blokes) and the Uighur.

BBC News seems to be running headlines featuring nothing else than dictatorship atrocities (and a good job too). They went from China and the Uighur, to Russia jailing Nalvany and associated protests and then finally to Myanmar with all the discord following the army being naughty. It finished with a bit of national news with regard to Captain Tom as well it should.

The piece on China referenced the truly horrific abuse and torture the Muslim Uighur women in ‘education camps’ were suffering every day including (and this really is nasty) electric cattle prods being inserted into the ‘private parts’ of the ladies to make them compliant.

Then appeared Biden’s foreign affairs flopsy to tell the whole world that the only answer is to stop dealing completely with China, to force them into acting humane, something that she knows is in cloud cuckoo land.

The whole thing is obviously insincere theatre. Biden’s administration is never going to upset China, firstly they owe them too much money, and secondly, because they are dependent on all those cheap Chinese goodies (as we all are).

The bottom line is simply that Biden, instead of telling the world to do what he himself isn’t prepared to do, could invite all the oppressed Uighurs to seek asylum in the States. There’s only 1.3 million of them and they should slip nicely into a population of 330 million.

But he won’t, because he’s a typical socialist, keen on telling others what to do, but not so keen on leading the way himself.

Is this a rant? Even a conservative wouldn’t offer amnesty all 12 million in China.

He says that there are only 1.3 million Uighur's in China Steamboat and that you have got plenty of room in Wyoming after you have slaughtered all those coyotes and other innocent wildlife.
His figures are a bit off, and we don’t exist. We didn’t take any Syrians in so this group would be no different.

Give it another 30 to 50 years with global warming and real estate up in Wyoming will become very sought after.

If you want to be properly informed on what amounts to a genocide of the Uighars then listen to Maajid Nawaz on LBC at the weekends. He often discusses it and is quite well-informed.

Will that be about the time they announce that there will be a ferry serving the Ashton and Stalybridge Archipelago and the Norfolk Broads are so broad that the wet bit stretches from The Wash to Lowestoft...?

I praise the Islamic world in opening their arms to support and welcome their brothers and sisters suffering from persecution.

China, like most communist country’s is sh*t scared of Muslim fundamentalists. Whereas Stalin drove them out into Northern Afghanistan . ( there’s an awful lot of Tajiks, Uzbeks and Turkmen there. And one of the main factors for for ye soviet invasion in 79 wasn’t a land grab. It was because The religious crazies turned up in Herat as an over spill from Iran’s Islamic revolution.

China has a similar issue. It’s border with Afghanistan in Badahkshan province is something akin to the Korean DMZ. It’s had an awful lot of Uighur conduct stabbie attacks in the name of Alan’s Snack bar, as well as not being too trusting of anything that doesn’t fit into the Chinese nationalistic stereo type.

you’ll notice that as our military is based in areas to jump off the the continent. Chinese military are based around their cities to keep the population in check. The Chinese people are still the Chinese governments biggest threat.

Although Bidens trying to play the diplomacy card unlike Trump. America’s still got a problem with Chinese expansionism. Although trunks gone, China’s Navy is still growing with the ultimate aim of controlling everything west of Guam.

The EU is more interested in selling German cars to China, so he has to try and play the humanitarian card. This may work as Germany and France would sell their country’s first born in order to make profit.

Interesting quote in The Observer's piece on EU-China relations this weekend:

Outraged by Uighur genocide, Europe picks a fight with China. And loses

paraphrased: Chinese ambo in Paris calls a French academic names....summoned to Quai d'Orsay for mild ticking-off....tells France to do one.

Worth a thirty second speed read.

The writer Simon Tisdall is no spring chicken, been around the diplo block for 40 years

" Hua Chunying, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said:

' China is no longer what it was 120 years [ vide: Boxers and Allied intervention].
No one should dare to offend the Chinese people.'

'The Chinese government has held an extraordinary press conference in Canberra, trotting out members of a Muslim ethnic minority to deny they had been persecuted by the communist nation.

'The Chinese embassy in Canberra invited Australian journalists to the meeting on Wednesday to defend Beijing’s human rights record in Xinjiang Province, where human rights groups believe more than a million Muslim Uyghurs have been sent to internment camps. But in a surreal press conference branded a “cheap stunt” by Human Rights Watch, Chinese ambassador Cheng Jingye insisted Uyghurs were not subjected to oppression in Xinjiang.

'China’s ambassador to Australia, Cheng Jingye, said the point of the press conference was to combat “disinformation” about Xinjiang and the Uyghurs. “Over some time, there has been quite some distorted coverage about Xinjiang in certain Western media,” Mr Cheng said. “Those reports are basically based on disinformation or misinformation. Today’s press conference is to help you Australian journalists to have a better understanding of the actual situation in Xinjiang.”

'Journalists were shown a six-minute propaganda video – entitled “Xinjiang is a Wonderful Land” – depicting the region as one of “economic development, social stability, livelihood improvement and religious harmony”. The video suggested the Communist Party of China had “transformed” Xinjiang “into a land of life, a land of thriving vitality”. China has long insisted the camps are designed to quell a growing separatist movement in the region, driven by the Uyghur population.

'The video claimed 56 ethnic groups had “worked together to develop a vast magnificent part of the motherland”. “The Chinese government has placed high on its agenda the inheritance, protection and development of the excellent traditional ethnic cultures of Xinjiang,” it said. In a video presentation marred by technical hiccups, various Muslims were filmed denying their religious freedoms were curtailed. “People and food, everything is so good here,” one said. “The people (are) so friendly actually, me and my friends are so happy to stay here.”

'When the journalists were permitted to ask questions later, the government representatives repeatedly refused to say how many Uyghurs were detained in Xinjiang, except to say that the 1 million figure was “fabricated”. He insisted the camps were not prisons, but designed to “educate” perpetrators of minor crimes.'

It was just a shit translation, just like that other piece of bollocks balderdash 'hurt the feelings of the Chinese people'. She used the term 惹不起 which in context means it's intolerable (to the Chinese people) that others do it.

Westerners - blaming Chinese for not being westerners since 1839.

Well thanks for the erudition - what I know about modern China could be safely engraved on an ant's left testicle.

Do I deduce that you sourced the original text as a result of my post ?

Or was that part of the great diplomatic fandango of
'She said, he said'
that has characterised geo-politics since forever ?

One of the ironies (I am told) of Britain's foreign relations with the entire world is that they seldom expect us to do just precisely what we have said.

And the other side of both the First Opium War and the Boxer rebellion has been quite deliberately clouded by many modern reporters, who wish to present only one side of the story - not least for fear of causing yet more offence to mighty China :)

For the purposes of comparison, this is the 1911 Britannica version of the ' Boxer Rebellion' as it was called by the Edwardians:

SOURCE

The reactionary tide continued to rise throughout the year 1899, but it did not appear materially to affect the foreign relations of China. Towards the end of the year the brutal murder of Mr Brooks, an English missionary, in Shan-tung, had compelled attention to a The Boxer movement, 1900. popular movement which had been spreading rapidly throughout that province and the adjoining one of Chih-li with the connivance of certain high officials, if not under their direct patronage.

The origin of the “Boxer” movement is obscure. Its name is derived from a literal translation of the Chinese designation, “the fist of righteous harmony.” Like the kindred “Big Sword” Society, it appears to have been in the first instance merely a secret association of malcontents chiefly drawn from the lower classes.

Whether the empress Tszʽe Hsi and her Manchu advisers had deliberately set themselves from the beginning to avert the danger by deflecting what might have been a revolutionary movement into anti-foreign channels, or whether with Oriental heedlessness they had allowed it to grow until they were powerless to control it, they had unquestionably resolved to take it under their protection before the foreign representatives at Peking had realized its gravity.

The outrages upon native Christians and the threats against foreigners generally went on increasing. The Boxers openly displayed on their banners the device: “Exterminate the foreigners and save the dynasty,” yet the representatives of the powers were unable to obtain any effective measures against the so-called “rebels,” or even a definite condemnation of their methods.[51]

Four months (January–April 1900) were spent in futile interviews with the Tsung-Li-Yamen. In May a number of Christian villages were destroyed and native converts massacred near the capital.

On the 2nd of June two English missionaries, Mr Robinson and Mr Norman, were murdered at Yung Ching, 40 m. from Peking.

The whole country was overrun with bands of Boxers, who tore up the railway and set fire to the stations at different points on the Peking-Tientsin line. Fortunately a mixed body of marines and bluejackets of various nationalities, numbering 18 officers and 389 men, had reached Peking on the 1st of June for the protection of the legations.

The whole city was in a state of turmoil. Murder and pillage were of daily occurrence. The reactionary Prince Tuan (grandson of the emperor Tao-kwang) and the Manchus generally, together with the Kan-suh soldiery under the notorious Tung-fu-hsiang, openly sided with the Boxers.

The European residents and a large number of native converts took refuge in the British legation, where preparations were hastily made in view of a threatened attack. On the 11th the chancellor of the Japanese legation, Mr Sugiyama, was murdered by Chinese soldiers.

On the night of the 13th most of the foreign buildings, churches and mission houses in the eastern part of the Tatar city were pillaged and burnt, and hundreds of native Christians massacred. On the 20th of June the German minister, Baron von Ketteler, was murdered whilst on his way to the Tsung-Li-Yamen.

At 4 p.m. on the afternoon of the 20th [June 1900] the Chinese troops opened fire upon the legations. The general direction of the defence was undertaken by Sir Claude Macdonald, the British minister.

This is what the modern Britannica has to say - compare and contrast:

Learn about the Boxer Rebellion

NARRATOR: The Boxers were a resistance group, whose primary aim was to evict all the Europeans from China. The movement started in the countryside, as successive poor harvests impoverished ever more Chinese families. The Boxers trained themselves in fighting techniques and even claimed to be in possession of special powers. They vowed to rid China of all Europeans. On the pretext of protecting Christian missionaries from the wrath of the Boxers, the German Navy entered the waters off the province of Shandong. Their real motive, however, was to occupy this part of China and establish a German colony.
