Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

  2. Wary of China, Duterte tells navy to build 'structures' east of Philippines
Duterte and his relationship with China. Order structures to be built but says "Let us not fight about ownership or sovereignty at this time, because things are going great for my country,"

  3. This is a joke policy, you build an Island we build an Island. Can we get together and build an Arrse Island, then all sit in dark rooms and insult each other through some rudimentary wireless system.

We had the pleasure of staying on an Island in the Maldives which was being eroded, some guest we befriended who could not afford the water bungalows had digs on the beach and were washed out twice, once with a wave of baby turtles which made for nice photos.

Over the sea a bit was a new island being created for some Asian version of Trump or something, the constant drone of dredging pumps was a little annoying when the wind was in the wrong direction.

Saudi also built a few decent islands IIRC.

Why dont the "west" all start building islands for our Allies over there, Im sure a rotation of troops to sit in the Scarborough Shoal on behalf of Vietnam would be fine, we could call it Cold War 2 but a bit more tropical than Paderborn and not fat chicks, just lots of Asians chicks.

I wonder if a decent tsunami would return the islands to the sea?

  4. The following story has also been posted in the North Korea thread, but I thought it belongs here as well as it apparently involves the South China Sea as well. U.S. ready to stand alone against North Korea, Trump says

Trump will meet with China's President Xi in Florida in a few days. Among the issues to be discussed will be the situation in the South China Sea.
It will be interesting as to whether negotiations will be linked to trade off problems in one area against another, and what Trump would be willing to give up to gain elsewhere.

  5. If Trump does kick off militarily, where does that leave the other countries involved? Do we turn around and say ' Crack on boy, it's your ball, play with it' or do we join in with the shit-storm? I'm certainly not wearing baggy green skin for this dim-wit to drag me into this stupidity.

Wow! Yanks are very brave guys, they don't fear "stand alone against" superpower like North Korea. But really he is disingenuous. US are not ready to fight with North Korea without help of South Korea.

  7. You have got to be a wind-up, as nothing living believes that statement.

Sorry, bro. I was being sarcastic.

  9. It will be interesting to see what common dialogue there is. Trump is using the Florida venue to match the Japanese state visit. One problem being Xi doesn't play golf and it's a source of political discomfort back in China, as it was banned. China has nothing the US wants to pay for, and basically wants China to feck right off from their economic / territorial ambitions in the South China Sea. Meanwhile China is growing stronger militarily, whilst the US is weakening in terms of its geopolitical influence even before the present era of Trumpism!

  10. The parts of the video showing North Korean girls in uniform are nice to watch. The rest of their military though looks like something out of a museum.

If the North Koreans want to tap into the international tourist market more, they could offer package tours where stern faced North Korean army girls march about in uniform and then whip their naked, kneeling client with riding crops while shouting abuse at him. Upper class Englishmen and MPs would be all over something like that. Or so I've heard.

Really not. They are proud people.
Actually South Korean Army and US Expeditionary Forces will be blocked or annihilated by Russian and China volonteers. Peoples Army should be translators and order-keepers in the time of referendum preparation. And after that United Korea will be our useful ally.

  14. Extract from Wiki;

Favorable perceptions of North Korea in Russia are gradually declining, with only 34% of Russians viewing North Korea as a friendly nation and 60% of Russians believing that North Korea's nuclear arms pose a threat to other countries; only 8% of Russians favor supporting North Korea in a potential conflict.[2] According to a 2014 BBC World Service Poll, 19% of Russians view North Korea's influence positively, with 37% expressing a negative view.[3]

  15. The Russians would like to build a gas pipeline and railway through North Korea to South Korea. South Korea represents a large potential market for Russian natural gas and railway transit services but the North Koreans keep screwing those deals with their sabre rattling and general erratic behaviour. The Russians have a strong long term economic interest in seeing a more predictable and reasonable government in North Korea.
