Kuala Lumpur-based carrier AirAsiaX has announced the debut of flights between Malaysia and London, connecting with its flights to the Gold Coast, Perth and Melbourne.

Tickets went on sale for the services tonight, with lead-in prices of $261 one way from Kuala Lumpur to London Stansted Airport.

The flights link with AirAsia X's Australian services, with special fares available in conjunction with the London launch of $192 from Perth to KL, $302 from Melbourne to KL and Gold Coast to KL from $291 - meaning fares ex PER to London lead in at a bargain $453 one way - including taxes and surcharges. The lead-in fare from Melbourne to London is $563, while from the Gold Coast it's $552.

The new London services will debut 11 Mar and will operate five times per week using an Airbus A340 aircraft, carrying 286 passengers including 30 premium XL seats.

AirAsia group ceo Tony Fernandes said opening up the London route was "the realisation of a long-held ambition to open up affordable access between Malaysia and Europe for both ASEAN and European communities.

"The opportunity for Australians to venture to London and Europe via the ASEAN region has never been greater," he added.
