Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hi there, I'm on the look out for a Lappy. Nothing too fancy, I'll use it for surfing (arrse and porn of course...) a bit of work (MS Office) and watching DVD's. Might upload some pictures on it too.

I know very little about these things, any ideas?

  3. Have a look at the Dell outlet site (linky). Some good machines at much reduced rates. Nothing wrong with them, just customed and returned or oversubscribed, and can't be disassembled. If you see one you like be warned they move quite quickly, but new stock are added regularly.
  4. These are outstanding value (linky)
  5. When I was in UK at xmas I bought one from tesco for £273.00. It is an Emachine, with 160gb hrad drive, 1gb memory, dvd writer. It seems ok.
  6. What about a refurbed/returned one?

Dell sell units returned under the distance selling act on ebay under the shop/user name of Dell Factory Outlet. You get a nearly new machine with a decent discount but with th protection of buying direct from Dell.
  7. This is a really nice little note book which is really easy to use and you can just put your toggle in to it and take it any where . you also have a three year warranty included . The only problem is in some store's was only limited to one per store
  8. If you want new, how about this from ebuyer:

eMachine, AMD Athlon 2650e, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, 14.1" WXGA, DVDSM, Onboard Graphics, Wireless, Vista Home Basic

14.1" screen, DVD RW built in and MS Home, Wireless etc.

    £287.99 with free delivery.
  9. Thanks for all the help so far (and thanks for the PM Bossy. The links given have been very useful but the problem I have is that I don't know what Spec I would need!

If anyone could help this would be great! I just want to watch porn, DVD's and surf. MS office would be good too but not essential.

  10. I'm thinking of taking a web book on tour. Are they worth it? Is it better to go bigger? Any suggestions?

Also a decent digital camera (for all those sexy bomb shots). that can put up with the heat and dust. I've looked at the Olympus mju. Is it worth the money?
  11. Chubb. No one needs advice off you. Your laptop is waterproof, chewable and has one big button on the keyboard to accommodate your head dobber.
  12. The ones I have seen do not have a DVD drive.
The specs on the one you linked also has no DVD drive.
That for me is an important feature
  13. You can get an external DVD jobber for under £40 which powers through the USB connection.
