Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Just finished reading the Password is Courage - the story of BSM Charles Coward who helped hundreds of jews escape from Auschwitz. Can anyone tell me if he was ever awarded a medal by the brits for his action (which include major works of sabotage while a prisoner)
  2. No idea, I know he has a tree planted in the 'Avenue of Righteous Gentiles', Vad Yashim in Israel and a blue plaque in north London where he lived.

  3. I know the Israelis gave him a medal for saving Jews - one of only two to Brits - the other was Churchill!

Didn't Dirk Bogarde play him in a film of the same name?
