    Here goes :D

    I joined in 1979
    I finished regular service in 2003.

    Here are a few thoughts on the changes.... feel free to add to them.

    1979 - NCOs had a typewriter at his desk for doing daily reports
    2003 – Everyone has an internet access computer, and they wonder why work in getting done.

    1979 – You were taught to aim your rifle at the enemy and shoot him.
    2003 – You spray 500 bullets into the bush, don’t hit anything and retreat because you are out of ammo.

    1979 – Officers were professional soldiers first and then they commanded respect.
    2003 – Officers are politicians first and beg not to be given a wedgie.

    1979 – They collected enemy intelligence and analyzed it.
    2003 – They collect your pee and analyse it.

    1979 – If you didn’t act right the Sergeant Major put you in the corner house until you straightened up.
    2003 – If you don’t act right a paper trial follows you for ever.

    1979 – Medals were awarded to heroes who saved lives at the risk of their own.
    2003 – Medals are awarded to the people who work in HQs

    1979 – You ate in a dining room where the food was free and you could eat as much as you wanted.
    2003 – You now eat in a Regimental Restaurant, every slice of bread or pad of butter costs so you better not each too much.

    1979 – We defeated powerful countries like Argentina.
    2003 - We come up short against Iraq and Yugoslavia.

    1979 – We stood up against powerful opposition like the Warsaw Pact.
    2003 - We collapsed under cabinet opposition on gay rights.

    1979 – We called our enemies Spick or Ivan because we didn’t like them.
    2003 - We call our enemy “Opposing Force” or “Aggressor” because we don’t want to upset or offend them.

    1979 – Victory was declared when the enemy was defeated and all his things were broken.
    2003 – Victory is declared when the enemy says sorry.

    1979 – A Commander would put his ass on the line to protect his people.
    2003 – A commander will put his people on the line to protect his ass.

    1979 - All you could think about was getting out and beco**** a civilian again.
