If you’re going to be picky, Land 400 phase 3 hasn’t delivered anything into service at all yet, so it was intended to be a like-with-like based on projected cost at completion.
It was also raised as a question - is there anything else included in that projected cost?
How long has Land 400 been running? Three years?

How long has FRES Ajax been running? Down-select on Ajax was in 2010. FRES before that?

When is LAND 400 due to deliver vehicles to units?

K21/Redback has been in service since 2009. Lynx has been selected by one customer and is in contention with three others.

How many countries other than the UK are looking at Ajax, specifically Ajax?

Not being picky. Until units are rolling out of the gates in Ajax, 'only' £8m apiece is as conjectural as anything else.

The Aussies are taking a (relatively) non-developmental vehicle and are willing to pay up to £20m apiece for it. We are putting a developmental gun on a vehicle so heavily modified it might as well be new for £8m apiece. Are the Aussies mugs or are we cheapskates?

You could squeeze a Cossie turbo engine into a Mk1 Escort, fit it with ODB, electric steering, IRS axle etc.
it will still be an Escort, and it cost you more than a Cosworth.

Is it 20M of our dollarydoos or 20M pounds? We also have a habit of giving the purchase price plus full life cycle costs as the unit cost.

There was mass hysteria a few years ago when the gubmint announced our 24 Super Hornets would cost $6 Billion. That included aircraft, spares, training, base construction/modifications, etc.

WTF?

he continued, stating that Challenger 3 would be "one of the few things in the Army that could reliably kill things it comes up against... apart from higher-end, modernised main battle tanks".

Then that issue would affect the Leo and Abrahms too, due to the same gun, with Abrahms have the shorter calibre gun, but with DU Rounds, and the Leo having a slightly older version of the same calibre gun that has been proposed for CR3 (though we get to play with DU, and the Germans use Tungsten). It's why we are seeing a move towards 130mm (which has already been fitted and tested on a CR2 Hull, with the new turret)

There's alot in this article that doesn't add up

Yes, but Challenger 3 is meant to be 'the most lethal tank in the world' and as it probably won't come in to service for 5-10 years I would expect the others to be at the same point as Challenger 2 by then.

Which others? If it's using the same gun and ammunition natures advance, then if we're L55/DU (whatever is the latest US round at the time) we're still going to be top dog.

The chances of us buying 120mm DU fin is abiut as close to zero as zero.

What it's really all about when you're on det I reckon....
