  1. Conspicuous Gallantry Cross: LCpl of Horse Andrew Radford

The "remarkable courage" of LCpl of Horse Andrew Radford, 25, of the Household Cavalry Regiment, in carrying a wounded comrade 70 yards to safety while under fire was recognised with the award of the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross.

A Spartan light tank and Scimitar armoured vehicle had been destroyed in a Taliban ambush on August 1. Three of the four occupants of the first vehicle were killed in the explosion or cut down as they left the crippled tank.

But, seeing the driver still trapped inside, LCpl Radford ran into the killing zone and "with almost a superhuman effort" carried the trooper uphill back to his own vehicle while still under fire from grenades and machine guns.

    Well done Andy
