Did anyone see the Centaur tanks under water on BBC 2 last night in the 'Coast' programe? The two tanks are 65feet down off the West Sussex coast. They were lost on D Day on the way to Normandy, along with two armoured bulldozers and a field gun. The landing craft capsized in bad weather. The Royal Marines and crew were rescued. The tanks had been specially adapted by the RM Armoured Support Group for support on Juno beach. It is said they are in 'fantastic ' condition but unfortunately upside down. Only 80 of these tanks were thought to have been made and only two thought to have survived the war.
