Career Break

#1
Heard there is now a career break being offered to those in the ranks! Anyone know what the details are and how long you can feck off for?

Anyone done/doing it?

I am not interested myself (as already said leaving soon!) but as I have had nothing better to do today, I thought I would ask about it.

Seems the Forces are offering these incentives to keep themselves a float with interest!

CAREER BREAKS FOR REGULAR ARMY PERSONNEL 4 Mar 08
Career Breaks are a retention positive initiative amongst Regular Army personnel. It is recognised that ensuring balance between personal life and military commitments is a contributory factor towards retention and the overall effectiveness of the Army. In recognition of this, the Army offers opportunities for personnel to take a Career Break for a specified time to meet personal objectives or to deal with personal circumstances, which they would otherwise be unable to do using leave entitlements and existing terms of service.
Career Breaks may be for any period over 3 months and up to 2 (and exceptionally 3) years. Whilst on a Career Break, personnel are not paid and time effectively stands still as far as an individual's Colour Service and Terms and Conditions of Service are concerned. Seniority for promotion and pension earning is placed on hold.
Career Breaks are granted at the discretion of the Army and each application will be considered on its own merits; they are not a right and will only be permitted where the manning situation allows and where they do not compromise operational capability.
Further detail and instructions for applying for a Career Break can be found in DIN 2005DIN02-198 dated October 2005.

When I am out, IAM OUT! I will not entertain the VEng, which lets face it is not for the benefit of the soldier, afterall nothing ever is! It is so that the Forces can cling on to quality servicemen that little bit longer so the last drop of life can be wrung out of them.

The poor squaddie is better off getting out at 40 (ish) and going off to a second career, 2 yrs extra in the mob aint gonna make a life changing difference on either your pension or lump sum.

The Army Sir, is in total disarray. The troops are leaving and we are being led by donkeys who do not have a clue and by FAR TOO MANY acting ranks to be expected what to do, and what for? Answers on a postcard please.
