It is with profound sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm the death of Captain Sean Dolan of 1st Battalion, The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters in southern Afghanistan on Saturday 30 June 2007.

Indeed, RIP.

2 things I observe :

a. A high number of officers and NCOs killed in both Iraq and A'stan, by comparison with private soldiers

b. How many services personnel are of Irish immigrant stock
eg. Mick Flynn of the Blues and Royals, supposedly the most decorated soldier still serving (interviewed outside the Palace on BBC the morning of the Falklands commemoration); and a significant number on the list of the Parachute fatalities in the South Atlantic (looked it up after the march past 2 weeks ago).
