The local newspaper records the funeral of Capt Richard Annand VC. He was awarded the medal after his coy defended a crossing on the River Dyle in Belgium in 1940. Although injured in the two day battle he charged enemy posts twice, once with grenades because he was short of ammo. As the coy retired he learned that his badly wounded batman had been left behind, so he went back to the original position and brought the man out in a commandeered wheelbarrow, before collapsing of his own wounds. Sorry if this is the wrong thread but I thought that this should be recorded somewhere on ARRSE.
