"We need a new Lord High Executioner, because the last one died"
"Murdered, I assume?"
"No, actually - just got careless one day and signed his name on the wrong dotted line"

Ayo Gurkhli!

As witnessed many times during Devali (sp?) at Tuker Lines, Brunei. One big feck off kuhkri, one silent goat.
I take it the sprog gets to hold the spurty end?

Actually, now I think about it the goat's probably well aware what's going on and both ends will be the spurty one.

Early attempts at a cracker with a gift inside were crude but showed the way ahead.

Seems that swordsmanship is now optional. With friends like the Saudis ...

'A-six-year-old boy was beheaded with a piece of broken glass in front of his screaming mum, a campaign group has claimed. Shia Rights Watch says that “in an unprecedented incident” the child, Zakaria al-Jaber, was brutally killed in Saudi Arabia after he was confirmed to be a Shia Muslim.'

A possibly interesting snippet from English history. When Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII's second wife, was beheaded, the execution was, at her request, carried out with a sword. The headsman of Calais had to be sent for because, as one source has it, "No Englishman could be found who was able or willing to use a sword in that fashion."

What’s happened to the current crop of swordsmen? Have they cut and run?

Beheading by rapier is deemed inhumane. It takes too long and tearing along the perforations is fiddly - remember tax discs?

Léonie Leaver has the profile for such a task..
Royals were mostly beheaded by sword (Marie Stuart was but her grand son was beheaded with an axe, Charles the 1 st, born in Dunfermline, btw)
The Maiden or La Damoiselle, if you prefer, was last used on the Earl of Morton

To be fair to the Saudis, there's no suggestion that was a state-sanctioned execution and indeed a policeman attempted to stop the murder.

However the Kashoggi affair shows that the Saudis already have someone who is a dab with a meat cleaver.
