Don't want to be too technical, but Camerone is actually tomorrow...on the 30 th of April, not the 29th.

Major (Ret) Roger Faulques, survivor of the RC-4 battle in Indochina in 1950, who took part in the Algier Coup of 1961, ex-mercenary in Yemen (with MI6) and Congo will carry the wooden hand of Capitaine Danjou.

For more infos (in French) on the bearer of the wooden hand and the honour guard of veterans:

http://www.legion-etrangere.com/modules_media/doc/1_1_08042010100443.pdf

Anyway, happy Camerone and I hope Miss Kepi Blanc will be good looking this year !

Another of those off-the-cuff remarks? ;)
Yeah they come in handy sometimes. Do I have to put up with your kind of gloves-off, in-grained, weak and prosthetic abuse? I can't quite put my finger on why I resent your comment. I can assure you that I have a high respect for their traditions and wood like to make it clear, in fact I'll go out on a limb on this, that I wish them all well.
Bravo, mon ami (sorry, there's no icon for a single hand clapping, so this will have to do  )

Is there a decent book on the RC4 battle/disaster in English? (If memory serves me right, this was the retreat from Cao Bang ridge..?)
Not that I am aware of unfortunately....

If you want to get a feel for what the area where the battle of the RC-4 looks like today, check this collection of pictures:

http://www.indoeditions.com/index.php?page=actu_militaria292.php

Indo éditions has a number of books on the subject, include a mammoth book on the 3°BCCP a colonial para unit which was all but destroyed during the fight.

This book includes a lot of never seen before pictures showing that the French paras of the time used a lot of captured WW2-era German equipment, including MP-40s and scoped Gewehr 43 semi-auto sniper rifles...
