I enjoy the occasional small cigar with a glass of chilled white wine, but I hate other peoples smoke and would never expect anyone to have to share my smoke either. So I go out or give up.

Probably easier to start up a new thread so GDav can sit on his triumph and the rest of us can debate it properly without GCO getting involved again.

Auld-Yin - want to do the honours with your post?
I don't have a Triumph but my wife has an MGF - will that do instead?
Wind it, wide boy - stick to your bumps without being a smart arse and follow PTPs directions - we are :threaten:
Just a little humour to show how much I still love you all :blowkiss:

In one of the deleted posts GDav explained the site rule under which he was allowed to stipulate what others could post on his thread. This was the subject of some fierce debate. I (and apparently many others) have not been able to find this again. Can we please have an explanation of how this works?

At the very best, a non-debatable thread on a debate forum is confusing; without some distinctive marking, it invites new posters to enter into debate on the thread. At the very worst, the likes of Dannatt can start another BNP thread stipulating only supportive posts and bumping it to look more popular than it is. I can only imagine how this could be made to look in the red-tops.

ARRSE is the COs trainset and they can set the rules as they like, but if we're to abide by them, we need to know what they are.

Smarty,

See HERE

Scroll down to the posting rules bit which is where my cut came from.

As a side point, with the GCO asking for comments on the make up of the site at the mo, it may be an idea to suggest an undebatable post capability if GDav's antics are to be allowed in the future.

It would certainly save MOD editing time

Your call.

Seriously? It's not to do with antics. There are several threads already open on the subject. I wished to draw the attention of Scottish viewers to Davy's petition because I know that there are several other petitons of the same ilk going around. There are a lot of RBL Clubs involved in this and many are suffering as a result. If RBL Clubs are forced to close because of falling attendance and falling wet sales we could lose them forever at a time when the Legion itself is suffering from a severe shortage of ex-service members.

In retrospect what I maybe should have done was place a vote on the thread but that wouldn'd have had any effect on members in Fife signing the named petition, although it may have spurred others on to organise petitions in their own area.

With the greatest of respect for the members from the rest of the UK, this is a learning curve for you too because this legislation creates a sweeping and absolute change in the lifestyle of those who socialise in public and while we ALL appreciate the benefits of being able to enter such places without coming out smelling like an ashtray, if the law encourages people to stay at home (which is now proving to be the case) then in some areas your favourite pub, restaurant or social club will not exist anymore and EVERYONE will suffer as a result.

That's why I was calling for a common sense attitude to wards the thread and not inviting debate. Mostly because you will get the usual crop of people coming on being snide.

Maybe I was wrong, but my intention was honourable and I would ask you all to accept that.

Gdav,

I really can't be bothered to continue with this so I will leave this as my last post. I have absolutely no doubt you will get the last word in.

What you did hasn't been done in my time on this site. Certainly I have never seen anyone try and protect a thread quite as inappropriately as you before - to the point of repeating a single post over and over again, in capitals. Face it, the people on this thread you wound up were not newbies or mongs (your terms) but regular and long term posters. And yes, your actions were antics.

My suggestion above to Smarty is valid and I hope he suggests it. I don't want to have to put up with the ridiculousness and incorrect rule posting that your posts degenerated to. Your attempt at humour earlier on today, after all that went on before just further pissed me off.

As to the RBL, this is the first time you have raised this as a justification of your post. Perhaps if we had been debating this, you might have raised it as an argument to get support for your petition?

I've given you more than lip service on this now. You don't seem to be very gracious on the subject however and that says more about you than it does about me.

As for the RBL, it could easily have been raised on another thread. It's not my petition, it was posted for information for Scottish members.

As for the other matters - you've missed the point entirely so I have no further comment.

GDav - wrt RBL - so why didnt YOU raise another thread so all could discuss this view?
IMO it was your 'attitude' that caused the problem, acting like a child when people did not want to follow your 'rules'.

There are other threads already in existence why would I want to raise another one?

It was not MY attitude which caused the probem. As far as I can see I complied with site rules. The problem was caused by others who broke those rules. If I had/have created my own rules I'm quite sure Admin would have taken me to task. They haven't but there is still time. If you still feel I have been unreasonable in my request you have the absolute right to have my "childish attitude" corrected by the people responsible.

I arrest my case.

As I have already pointed out calling me a 't**t' and inferring other users were mongs is IMO unreasonable.
But it would seem that your behaviour was accepted by the 'mods'.

I think the term "reasonable provocation" should be considered.

Cheers for the link, Cheapseats. I've read through the policy and still can't find a mention of thread authors having editorial control. My concerns re extreme or unpalatable views remain.

The Section on Posting Standards in the General Boards seems to state that comment and debate are expected, yet this thread clearly is an exception.

I know I'm thick (the wife keeps me well informed on this score:biggrin:), could someone explain it in single syllables?

The end.
