The wife has decided that she wants to visit her mate who is posted to SHAPE and i have been left with the travel arrangements, I'd rather not get bled dry on all the toll motorways and instead take a route avoiding them and taking in the odd battlefield instead.

Or am i just being a tight cnut and should i just smash it down the motorway all the way there?

Any advice or routes would be much appreciated

  2. French motorway from Calais due north to Belgian border, no tolls.

In Belgium follow N8 to Ypres and the world is your oyster.

    No tolls in Belgium.
  3. Fly.

Then you don't have to soil your tyres with Frenchness :D
  4. Agree with above - stop in Ypres and have a coffee in one of the little cafes in the square and pick up a map from the museum you will then be able to recognise "Hell fire corner" and many of the other features and road junctions.
