Right, I'm addicted to caffeine. I don't just mean I like coffee a lot. I probably get through (at least) 20 mugs a day, If it's instant I normally have about 2 heaped spoonfuls per cup and if it's from the cafe I ask for a treble shot. It gets worse. Most people find coffee keeps them awake and alert, I can't sleep unless I've just had one, and frankly, I'm about as alert as a very tired slug. I often wake at about 4am with a blinding headache and the a quick coffee sorts it out. If I go more than about 4 hours during the day without a brew I get headaches so bad they would (probably) kill an average civilian. These headaches are the "world go away I'm laying down" type. Caffeine does not make me hyper, I'm generally a calm type. This addiction has crept up on me over many many years but I've been aware of it since about 2001. My questions to the healthy medic types. 1. Is this going to do me any lasting damage, if i carry on? 2. Does anyone have any suggestions how to go about stopping. Alternatives etc, Cold turkey? Thanks for your time, I'm off to the cafe.
