Cabinet reshuffle - Hoon the goon has gone

Discussion in 'Current Affairs, News and Analysis' started by COatELMPT, May 6, 2005.

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hoon has been replaced as Secretary of State for Defence by John Reid. At least Reid has some previous experience in the MOD - lets hope he does a better job eh!

  2. Yes!!!

At last Hoon the Goon is gone.

Cpl_Ripper and the Election Poster team will be thrilled!

  3. Excellent mate, he has done no good whatsoever, and has bullied a lot of Senior Military personnel to feather his nest. Not to mention the lives lost !!!!!!!

  4. To be fair....he would have made an excellent subordinate....

He did exactly what his political masters wanted. B2 HQ needed to find money from somewhere to fund all their wonderful policies, like creating more civil service and local government posts then ever before with inglorious job titles such as 'Social Inclusion Officer' (wtf?) or 'Youth Offending Service Strategic Manager' (eh?). And he has done a very good job.

    You can imagine the conversations:

GB: 'Now then Hoon, have you managed to find the $2bn we asked for last week?'

GH: 'Sah! We have privatised three tank regiments, mothballed five more warships, and projected forecasts indicate a 14% growth in gapped posts due to low morale forcing servicmen to seek employment elsewhere.'

GB: 'Well done Hoon. Take a long weekend.'

GH: 'Thankyou Sah. Will that be all Sah?'

GB: Yes Hoon, you can go.'

GH: 'Sah!' (about turn, quick march)

    What a cnut.

  5. I wud jus like to add to this post the following:

Be scared - be very, very scared.

The new incumbent, John Reid, is like a terrier. When you see Buffoon moving to Leader of the House, this shows what his real abilities were. He put into place the cuts (sorry re-org and FAS) - BOLLOX cuts that he was told to do - Reid will be more pro-active. Reid rhymes with weed and weeds get right down into the roots and destroy from within.

    Brown envelope anyone?

  8. Reid has talent and experience; it is a question of how it is used.

Will he fight the military's corner in Cabinet, or will he use his skills to suppress any opposition to "reforms" from those in uniform?

  9. Why cant they have a really experienced defence minister who has been on the tours, had to do the stags at 4 am in the pissing down rain, yomped across hills with 100 lbs hanging off his back, deal wif the substandard kit issued and la de da de dum.. u know .. so he can truely stick up for the armed forces.. not just nod and shake his head and this and that...

  10. Hoons demise, if an accurate report, is good news.

The good news stops there. Now Neu Arbeit have secured a 3rd term, and T Bliar has said he will go this time around, old Prudence will be staffing the Cabinet - and its a safe bet old Prudence will stick some other lame and f&*king useless tw@t in as Sec Def again - coz it is easy savings for the government.

Things will get worse before they get better. The joys of democracy. F&*ckin' A man (as our American cousins would say).

[PS - As for the dream of getting somebody in as Sec Def who actually has military experience, you are more likely to find Rabbis giving Holy Communion! For a start it would require the greedy tw@ts work for a living, not to mention having to actually be part of a team to their personal loss and requiring some degree of personal fitness and no little integrity. If you can find a politician who ticks all those boxes, that MP is in the wrong job!]

  11. Right, let it be know that I'm copyrighting the acronym TCR as of now. Anyone who wants to use it will have to pay me 5p a time....

I totally disagree - that MP is in the right job - they just won't last long.

  13. The last Defence Secretary with serious military experience must have been Tom King then, who IIRC did national service as a subaltern in Korea.
Before that Willie Whitelaw and Lord Carrington were the last cabinet ministers to see action in WWII.

John Mellor saw action in a Chelsea shirt - does that count?
