I am in no way decrying their sacrifice, but if they looked round London now, I wonder if they would think their sacrifice was worth it.

I will shortly be attending a CWGC organised burial of my wife's grandfather whose remains were found a year or so ago and have now been formally identified. For all the woes affecting our country today, it is worth noting that we do have the CWGC and all they do, something I am sure the whole country can be proud of.
