Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

  1. Well I have been asked by my old rally team to do the 2010 Budapest - Bamako Rally.

Where is Bamako? Mali (north west Africa).

I have been given a fairly decent budget for the right vehicle (about 30,000 quid all prepared). While I could go the dull and boring route and simply buy a Landrover Defender or a Landcruiser, I am after something a bit more interesting.

The route is involves a lot of off-road driving in desert conditions (sand as well as rock desert) and driving down sandy african dirt tracks.

    1. What vehicle should/could I use? Will need to have or be able to have retro fitted: winch, snorkle, sand filters, sump protection plates, etc (standard ruggardisation).
    2. Does anyone have any GPS mapping for the NW Africa region?

    Any suggestions gratefully received.
