  1. Once you get past the weirdness factor of American academics studying Brit culture/mores, it does open the eyes to how the British still lead the world.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Professor David Fahey [ History, Miami University of Ohio ] board member of the Alcohol and Drugs History Society:

On average, Britons drink the equivalent of 8.6 litres of pure acohol each [ 2001 figures, only, available ] nearly double the rate of only one generation ago. That is the equivalent of 86 bottles of wine or 350 pints of beer...

BUT: British women, 18 to 24, are drinking the most, although almost one quarter of all young people aged 11 to 15, in fact, admitted to trying alcohol within a period of a week with some acknowledging that they knock back 10 to 15 pints in a week.

That's keeping up the sides, then, innit?

'course if the wimmin are doing all the drinking one has to extrapolate that they aren't doing all the buying, or it takes more beer to get them " in the mood " these days...[ building up a tolerance??]
