British Empire Medal (Military Division) Correctly mounted?

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Just had my dads BEM and GSM court mounted, but it has come back mounted the opposite way (the BEM) to the way he wore it. I think it may have been mounted incorrectly.

Can anybody tell me which is the reverse/obverse to the medal? I notice that his regt details and name do not face the same way on the BEM as the GSM? The Queens head is showing on the GSM, so I know that is correct

Anybody any ideas, he died on boxing day last year and I would like to show my mother the medals, but only if they have been mounted correctly

    thanks in anticipation,

  2. Brittannia should face out, cypher on reverse.
  3. Cheers, looks as if its a snot-o-gram to the place where I had it done, thanks v much for your help

  4. No problem Japster; they probably assumed that the 'sovereign's effigy faces out' rule applied to the cypher but bearing in mind the amount you have to cough up these days you'd think they'd get it right.

Treasure them as you did him.
