Amazing to think that I once sat in th cockpit of an Apache when one was brought to Middle Wallop for a display.

I was on my flying course at the time. 1977!

Was that one of the prototypes? According to wiki the prototype first flew in 1975. The first pre production AH64A's were handed over to the US Army for testing in 1981 and the first production model was roled out in 1983.

Probably but TBH we were all just blown away by the size of it. If memory serves I think the pilots were wearing orange flying suits which points to test flying.
