Brexit Schadenfreude; "I didn't realise THAT would happen when I voted Leave..."

...and you’ll have proof for that claim?
Interesting, considering its well known that Russia is very effectively using internet trolling to influence opinion and wanted both a Trump presidency and brexit.

Obviously, a fractured EU and isolationist ISA is very much in Russia's strategic interest.

This is Carol Cadwalladr's Ted Talk on the back of her investigation into Cambridge Analytica
( @halo_jones I expect you've seen?)

For those strange individuals out there who insist on making their own minds up about stuff and FWIW:

( and Graculus, the Beeb consistently ignores anything Farage and the rest have ever said- why should they do any less for Cadwalladr? )

You actually think your opinions are your own?

How very last century.

Is this the same Carol Cadwalladr whose newspapers articles are usually found to be fabrications or a different one who just happens by coincidence to be the same person?

Dunno, better ask @Graculus who has an unrequited passion for the lady.

To me, she's just another champagne Socialist who writes for the Guardian-owned Observer, though she seems pleasant enough

Droning on about how much the EU has done for Ebbw Vale rather neglects to mention two points

1) Former South Wales MP and Leader of the Labour Party Neil Kinnock spent happy years after his electoral defeat soaking up the EU gravy - I have no doubt he traded his support in return for investments in South Wales

He was obliged to resign as part of the forced, collective resignation of the Commission in 1999. He was re-appointed to the Commission under new President Romano Prodi. He now became one of the Vice-Presidents of the European Commission, with responsibility for Administrative Reform and the Audit, Linguistics and Logistics Directorates General.[51] His term of office as a Commissioner was due to expire on 30 October 2004, but was delayed owing to the withdrawal of the new Commissioners. During this second term of office on the Commission, he was responsible for introducing new staff regulations for EU officials, a significant feature of which was substantial salary cuts for everyone employed after 1 May 2004, reduced pension prospects for many others, and gradually worsening employment conditions. This made him disliked by many EU staff members, although the pressure on budgets that largely drove these changes had actually been imposed on the Commission from above by the Member States in Council.

2) Where does she think the money to pay for the Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre she is so proud of CAME from?

Give her a good sueing like Wiggy and Banks keep threatening to do.....

For those who jumped on the bandwagon and criticising the EU for not allowing Puigdemont to stand in the upcoming EU elections, it was the Spanish electoral body who said he wouldn't be eligible.
The Spanish supreme court has overturned that ruling and said he can be eligible to stand and, by a unanimous vote, stated:
"the decision of the Electoral Board to exclude them from the lists lacked "sufficiently explicit normative basis" and that it violates "the fundamental right of passive suffrage of the appellants."

Part of the new U.K./US trade deal. We don’t want them either!
Read some of the official labour reports. The US economy would fall apart without the Mexicans doing the dirty jobs that everyone thinks they are too good to do.

Sounds similar to things over here

But we don’t need their 5 kids and spouse to come over either. You be surprised at the money to be made doing the not do glamorous jobs. Many folks will do the jobs, but they are underbid by their Mexican counterparts.

The way it works around Texas:

- White American goes around getting the work in construction, property maintenance and doing gardening, or landscaping.

- He then sub's the work out to a gang run by an American born Spanish speaking Mexican/Hispanic,

- A gang of non-english speaking Mexicans/Hispanics turn up to do the work. The workers get paid anything from $10 to $15 an hour depending on their immigration status.

Being me we bought a house here that needed fixing up and the Mrs insisted I get people in to do the heavy lifting. I had a bloke come to quote for some work and he wanted $1000 a day for two Mexicans to do basic labouring work. Knowing what Mexi's get paid they will have been lucky to get between $100 and $160 for the day. Being a tight european who is capable of doing the work I did it myself anyway.

Nah, white redneck Americans want to make a months money for a days work and are inherently work shy in most cases.

My landlord had a plumber around to do a job on the house we are in at the moment. As a plumber I was perfectly capable of doing the job but, I am a tenant and don't need to do the job. The job was a simple fix and required 5 feet of pipe replacing and a 90 degree elbow joint and a shut off valve. $1300 for a couple of hours work.

it's what people don't realise about freedom of movement.

You might feel good about your car wash that only cost a quid but what if the thirty odd EE migrants on starvation w ages who did it?

Nothing is cheap these days. I am going to pay movers 1100 bucks for a days worth of work.
