Brexit Phase Two - Trade

UK is signed up to CFP until 2020
21 months from March 2018 makes the end of the transition period Dec 2020 by my calculations.

Given that you'll have rapacious French and Spanish trawlers shut out from UK waters exploiting ROI waters from Jan 2021 onwards, enjoy having your waters over-exploited and turned into a marine desert.

(Said trawlers are going to lose about 400,000 tonnes of catch. They'll try and make that up from other EU waters, of which the ROI's form a significant part).

May is effectively having her feet held to the fire by both Ruth Davidson and JRM indicating they won't support continued EU access beyond the transition period. She'll be aware that either is capable of putting an amendment down to that effect. Labour would be pretty well guaranteed to support that amendment - electorally popular and a bloody nose for May. So I don't think she can afford to allow access after the transition period.

Policing need not be so difficult. Invest in three old maritime patrol aircraft - their radar only needs to be good enough to detect trawlers - and bring some old frigates out of mothballs and partially disarm them for fishery protection vessels. EU trawlers to fish in UK waters is to be subject to license - a condition of that license being the right to inspection at any time while in UK waters. Planes find the trawlers - ex-frigates intercept suspect ones with heavy fines for law-breakers....

If the government really thought strategically, they'd invest in some refrigerated trains. Land your catch at northern Scottish ports, load onto refrigerated train and have it - via euro tunnel - in continental markets while the EU trawlers are still days away from port.

We can bring in expertise. The FIG run a avery successful fisheries programme.

He does seem to be getting his little green panties in a twist about something which is none of his business.

There is a very successful fisheries program in place for quite a number of countries. (And around the Channel Islands, which being a Crown Dependency are not part of the EU).

The problem with the Common Agricultural Policy and Common Fisheries Policy is that there are countries benefiting substantially out of them who will obstruct any attempt at reform.

One of the many bonuses of Brexit is that in a few years time, the UK will be able to implement more sensible policies and leave the EU to its cluster-fornicate.

UK's withdrawal from the CFP is going to be a disaster for the Irish fishing fleet unless they get an agreement with us.

Whats that?

Veradker might find his best butties in Brussels might not let him save the Irish fishing fleet by doing a deal with us splitters?

Pardon the pun, but who gives a toss about the price of fish in the grand scheme of things?

0.05% GDP. A few thousand workers.

Why are the brexiteers so fixated on the fishing industry when they don't seem to give a toss about the concerns of manufacturing or the services sector.

Things have gotten so bad those sectors were hailing Jeremy Corbyn as the friend of business

Funnily enough, your EUtopian friends are very worried about UK fisheries.
Something to do with causing serious economic harm in EU states.

Aye, if only there was actually a railway line that went anywhere near Scotland's main fishing port. Peterhead is 32 miles from the nearest railway.

Ans it's a shit railway at that.
Yep if any governments had been thinking strategically since the 1950s they might have invested in rail infrastructure instead of allowing the UK rail system to turn into the over-expensive, inadequate shitshow that it has become!

So the rights will be bargained away to foreigners to try and win benefits to bigger parts of the economy?

But there was a line.

Formartine and Buchan Railway - Wikipedia

Time for Wee Nippy and May to consider restoring it. The tonnage set to be landed at Peterhead may well double and, as discussed earlier, there may be a considerable commercial advantage to moving fish from Peterhead to the continent at close to 100 mph compared to the 15 mph of an EU trawler.

A lot of the track bed will still be there, so it's not going to be as expensive as an entirely new line.

Same in the USA.

The trillions spent on the WoT could have given the Americans fantastic infrastructure for the 21C

Sold, as in, we charge them for the privilege.
How much do you think that it's worth?

I assume by charge, you mean offset the undoubtedly more expensive access we'll be paying for trade with our former European friends?

Vardarker is about to find out that the other fishing nations involved will use QMV to allow their trawlers to rape Irish waters to make up for the 400,000 tonnes of fish they'll no longer be allowed to catch in UK waters after 2020.

What, you mean we have been analy raped economically, while paying for the privilage.
Remain voters should hang themselves.

Nah! Why would Ireland EU friends want to snaffle its very lucrative fish export market!
Its the EU, they are all for one and one for all and all!

They're mad.
To imagine that we'll have to pay to trade with an outfit that we have a trade deficit with.
We've been shafted since 1975, these remain voters are complicit in the notion that we should continue. Belters, every thick one of them.

You seem to be having a fit of the vapours.
Perhaps you should lie down for a bit?
