Brexit Phase Two - Trade

Agreed.

I did hear a wonderful snip of an interview with Jason Reeve Mogg on LBC being called a hypocrite for moving his investment company to Dublin.

He pointed out that his offices are still in London and will continue to be in London. He then proceeded to explain he had opened a fund up in Dublin, following in from another one he’d opened up in 93 and the fund was planned way before the referendum was even announced.
And you swallowed up that tripe.

You're not known as arrses leading swallower of lies for naught.

My impression from talking to people at work, in the pub, to friends and so on is that

The silence is deafening.

That's what happens when you knock on the doors of your community, selling them job losses, lower living standards and poverty under the guise of unicorns.

Dark muttering and awkward silences will haunt your steps in the years to come

You think. We’ll see. Illogical my bum I never mentioned Star Wars.
Or even Star Trek as Spock was the one to mention the term "illogical". Try to get your Sci-fi stuff sorted, mate.

The problem is the Brexit vote where it voted leave most was in 7 out of the 10 poorest, furtherist and generally disenfranchised areas in the uk and Europe.

For some of these areas despite the glowing employment figures the final straw was immigration.

And where the targeted ads on immigration and the NHS were hammered home. That, the Turks are coming has been described as one of the most deliberately hateful and dishonest posters ever seen in British politics. ( if I can’t find it, then the source is me)

What you had was a protest vote. Had the question been ‘do you hate Westminster’ there would have been a landslide.
Europe wasn’t the problem it was London and the SE which was sucking up the money and the transport and travel infrastructure.
Does your city have an airport?
How many runways?

In the latter days of the vote there were seriously dodgy claims which wouldn’t have stood up in an ordinary election, but because there was a seriously limited timeframe. And a lot of new information flying around there was no time to check any of it.

You’re wrong about most people looking forward to leaving the Eu.
You’re also wrong about people wanting to get on with it. (That ones being pushed particularly hard because there’s nothing nice to look forward to leaving Europe. Higher costs, job losses, business resizing and disappearing)

Your other bit about the remainers being a distinct but vocal minority is also not being borne out.
There have been rashes of social media questionnaires and polls. People have been traipsing up and down the land having public meetings and talks. Mainly in areas which were particularly heavy duty leavers.
Again and again the answer comes back it was either a fucked off with the Westminster people or immigrants.

The leave campaign have removed a lot of anti immigration/UKIP ads and posters. That’s the next one where they’re going to be in the poo. Attention time the whole campaign was too fast and furious to keep an eye on everything. Now that things have calmed down and they’ve been done for massively overspending.

The next one looks to be on some of the more ‘colourful’ statements and facts.

The social media questionnaires show what you fail to acknowledge. People are changing their views.
They’ve realised that Europe wasn’t the cause of their woes. They’ve realised they were sold a pup, lied to by the ads, the posters, the leave camp and almost everyone who talked them about it.
They’ve realised that no matter how bad things have been and are now. Brexit isn’t going to make it better. In fact as the fishing and farming people are finding out, it’s going to make things worse.

Now here’s the bad news.

If there’s another referendum, the young people will. I stress will. Come out and vote. What they will probably do, and I don’t mind telling you this as you won’t read it.

They’ll drop the voting age. And I’m sure you aren’t hanging out with the young uns down with the kids........but they’re seriously keen on Europe. And they will vote, being all grown up and stuff and sticking it to the man.

They’re already being targeted by remainer youth and peer groups. It’s a bit like UKIP with girls and nice people all geared up to take it to the streets.

You see that green bit outside Westminster, that grass stuff where they do the outside
Stuff. Look who’s there, look who’s annoying some of the interviewers and interviewees. And they’re there all day every day. And they’ve no problem getting volunteers.

That last pro euro March there’s another one in October, feel free to get those numbers wrong to support your preconceptions.

And at the other end of the demographic scale. Those particular voters will not come out to vote again for a myriad of reasons.

I don’t expect a response.
The only reason the silence is deafening is because you aren’t listening. Or reading or getting out much.

Get those sneakers on, you may well be back on the streets again. I’d be interested in how the response differs this time round, but you’ll probably lie about it.
Everyone else. Sorry it’s so long, but he did ask. It’s been an interesting day.
Uk support for the EU has never been strong.

YouGov | EuroTrack: The swing to the Eurosceptic Right

Intersting to see that dissatisfaction with the EEC/EU started to grow after the 1975 referendum sort of making a mute point about it being driven by immigration.

Polling history: 40 years of British views on 'in or out' of Europe

Remember that it was Blair that promised a referendum on our membership in 2004 and failed to deliver that. One of the contributing factors to Milliband doing so badly in the GE in 2015. Labour has swung back to where it used to stand in the political spectrum and hence the lack lustre support for remaining in the EU seen in the seats of the opposition.

So we have a situation now that those who wish us to remain in the EU are reverting back to the standard strap lines of ‘evil Tories’ whilst they were the ones that originally pushed us into Europe. We have an opposition party who has historically been anti Europe, seeing its leadership who pushed through a U turn being rewarded with lucrative jobs in Brussels, whilst the follow on leaders pushed through further integration into the EU, whilst simultaneously promising a referendum on EU membership yet failing to deliver it and attempting to overturn a referendum result they didn’t want.

As a result, those on the loosing side have claimed that it is only the elderly and stupid who voted leave and they will die out soon.....yet those elderly people who will die out soon have somehow managed to stay alive for 40 odd years, or maybe, just maybe people become more eurosceptic at any age in life and the continued belief within the electorate is they don’t want to be in the EU.

I do see the benefits of the EU, its Allowed my company to suppress wages for a long time and has allowed me to charge over the odds for my rental income.

We’ll never hear the end of the whining about why the remain campaign lost. But do you think maybe that those people that coordinated the remain campaign were a little bit out of touch? After all, people normally vote for the status quo and the remain campaign even managed to fail to sell the status quo to the electorate, let alone the benefits.

If it makes you feel better To believe that it was racists and stupid people who voted to leave. Then crack on. It was racists and stupid people who managed to elect a government that managed to set up the NHS. It was racists and stupid people who managed to stand up to fascism. No matter what I say won’t change your mind, but remember, we were promised a referendum over a decade ago.

I think you're full of it and your city contacts don't understand manufacturing
I could say you are a luddite living in the past an unable to grasp that technology is changing the world we live in, but I wont say that

I suggest you read the Bangemann report and it may cause you to re-evaluate your position when you get better insight into the European 'project' - bit of background below:

Martin Bangemann - Wikipedia

Bangemann wrote a report called the Information Society. It basically was the start of the social and economic re-profiling of the member states, having looked at the change in manufacturing demographics, the demise of industry in Europe, the rising Tiger economies. Thats where your social and economic engineering can trace its roots back to.

John Major started to implement it but Blair took all of the credit. You may want to look at things like the fourth and fifth frameworks whilst you are there doing your research. Basically Bangemann recognised manufacturing in Europe was goosed as a long term game. Its 10% of UK GDP now and dropping. Ultimately you will go and your mates. Its sad but true. You will be unemployed - not sure if it will be in your working life time, but you are f**ked.

The City doesnt care about manufacturing, nor really do the EU - they are playing a bigger game in the globlalisation space (economic and social) - thats why people like Merkel are screwing up the Fatherland with dusky types - its all part of their mad socialist grand plan.

Have read. Do some research. This lot has been going on for about 28 years, but I suspect you will be new to it.

As for me, I plan to on a big fat boat in Bermuda or the Bahamas, so no, I dont really care about manufacturing. Sorry
