Brexit Endgame

Honda had excess capacity, they cut production in Japan at the same time they decided to leave Swindon.
You ARE aware a lot if it’s production in the UK was shipped back to the JDM market? No, thought not. they sold barely a few thousand LHD models from Swindon per year into the mainland market - Honda never got established into the highly protected EU market. Nearly all its EUropean sales were in the UK.
Excess capacity , why build RHD cars in the UK when you can ship them from Japan.
My 1st CRV, built in Japan, 2nd, built in Swindon, current one, built in Japan, next one will be Canadian built.
Wife's Jazz, built in Japan.
depending on what you optioned decided wether you got a UK or JDM sourced model

you seen fixated on Brexit, but a Honda had given up on EUropean production long before Brexit was even a gleam in Nigels eye.
Get back to me when you can read. You told us all that Brit built cars are a must in Japan? That not true then?

So lads, how is Brexit going?

Has the UK collapsed in a pile of pain and misery yet?

Is the EU marching forward to global economic mastery?

Keep me updated please.
At least we're no longer ran by unelected bureaucrats...

Hey, @Graculus,

Cheers, the new immigration policy looks brilliant:

------------------------------------------

Applicants would need to apply for a visa which would be limited to 12 months, at which point a “cooling-off” period will take effect, meaning they could not return under the same route for the next year.

Earliest finish date of proposed migration system
While in the UK, they would not be entitled to access public funds or switch to other routes, bring dependant family members or seek permanent settlement.

The proposed short-term work route forms part of the most significant shake-up of the immigration regime for more than 40 years, set out in a long-awaited White Paper that will apply following the post-Brexit implementation period, which ends in December 2020.
-----------------------------------------------

And tens of thousands is ideal. Not hundreds-of-thousands, year on year, bringing their families, access to public funds; stay as long as you like.

Well done Brexiteers for taking back control of our borders.
It's clearly wacist.

See what the budget brings but, now there's nobody who will speak truth to power and Johnson is big on vanity projects. East - West Rail in Midlands and North investment would help - what else?
Freeports; the Geordies will love the smuggling opportunities.

Amazon's already making moves to expand up there somewhere.

Another Brexit win.

Clearly, you don't need immigrant Poles if you're going to be employing Geordies on minimum wage.

Just imagine that. Those wages spent in UK not sent home to Poland.
How many you worked with? EU immigrants I've worked alongside have been UK resident and bringing their kids up here.
With restricted low-skilled migrants, the minimum wage won't be the maximum wage.
You're not getting it yet are you?

Speaking of Amazon and such.

Do you think the UK will pull the trigger on the 2 percent digital tax?
I'm not that clued up about it; from the top of my head there's been some dithering over it in the EU and possibly some other countries, so the UK plans to do it alone; which will upset the Septics even more after the Huawei businesses.

Maybe it would be wisest to leave it for now and for gov to choose it's fights carefully?

No doubt they're going to have a lot of them in the coming months.

British fishing interests must come before saving the EU fleet from change.

BRITISH FISHERMEN are enraged on social media as examples of the marauding fleet of EU boats fishing in British waters are, yet again, observed on the Marine Traffic website.

Fishing for Leave echoes this anger on behalf of many of its members who say they are “sick to the back teeth of EU boats fishing British waters day in and day out with the lion’s share of the quotas while we’re stuck ashore from lack of it” – with another fishermen adding “Throughout the year there's always twice the number of EU boats off Cornwall, Kent, the Hebrides and around Shetland than British boats.”

These pictures below are just another shameful example of the Common Fisheries Policy giving unfettered access for EU boats to fish our waters. While the local Cornish fleet is ashore for weather a fleet of bigger French boats are over to scrape the local Cornish grounds. A repeat of the daily pillage right round Britain that must end . . . .

In the English channel and southern North Sea the EU fleet has 90 per cent of the Haddock, Whiting and Cod quota that French trawlers target. They are always in the British sector because, although the EU has a ridiculous majority of the quota, the majority of catches of all these species are in British waters. That is why EU fishermen are full of anger, tears and self-pity – we have the resources, but they fiddled the EU Relative Stability Quotas to claim these grossly inflated shares.

The EU also has 90 per cent of North Sea and Channel Herring and Horse Mackerel quota that the big super trawlers (that have caused public outrage and whose parent companies are nearly all Dutch) target all along the British coast.

To add insult to injury, of the meagre quota share the UK does get half of it is in EU owned but UK registered ‘Flagships’ hands – these foreign owned and named boats can readily be observed fishing around Britain under the British flag.

These big EU Flagship companies were forced upon the UK by the European Court of Justice overruling the Thatcher government’s 1988 economic link conditions. These aimed to stop Flagships buying out British family fishermen who were left heartbroken at having little option but to sell up due to Britain having so little of the quota under EU Relative Stability shares.

The message of Fishing for Leave and fishermen throughout the country we represent is simple – ‘get them out Boris Johnson!’

The UK has officially left the EU but has re-obeyed all EU laws (including the CFP) for the 11-month Transition Period. At the end of this Britain will be officially an independent coastal state, but fishermen worry this will be in name only with Britain still closely aligned to mimicking CFP rules under “level playing field provisions” and the government having caved to EU demands to roll over the current unlimited equal access and quota shares.
Boris Johnson has continually said that fishing “won’t be traded away” and that to do so would be “reprehensible”. However, what’s the reference point to define if fishing is traded away – meekly rolling over to no change of the status quo? The government might think the status quo can be spun as not trading away but that won’t wash with the public or industry.

For Fishing for Leave it is simple – at the end of the Transition the CFP and its exploitationary quota shares cease to apply. At that instant Britain reverts to international law that confers exclusive sovereignty over all our waters and resources within our Exclusive Economic Zone.

We instantly see a repatriation of our rightful share of resources under the international principle of Zonal Attachment – where nations have quota shares based on the predominance of species in their waters. The EU has to cut its cloth to reflect the loss of UK waters from the common pot to comply with international law requirements for a nation to fish its available waters and resources sustainably.

The EU cannot go on expecting 90 per cent of the channel quota when it only has 50 per cent of the waters. Even more pertinently how can the EU argue for any continuation of having half the quotas for off the West Coast of Scotland? How can they argue that is shares such waters?

The government must make it a condition that any deal on limited annual access to British waters is predicated on the EU recognising Britain’s rightful and fair Zonal Attachment share of quotas. Then any access must only be granted when the UK receives a reciprocal value of fishing opportunities in return!

Fishing for Leave has been uncompromising to the complaints made to us by EU fishermen who protest that they are merely doing what is legal, fishing close to Britain for shelter, and that the British government implemented a domestic allocation of quota that saw consolidation of quota into a few big companies’ hands.
FFL don’t give a monkey’s to their protests on weather, as whether it is wind rain or shine out there the EU fleet fishes close to Britain all year – if they don’t like bad weather why are a fleet of EU boats off the NW of Scotland?

Justice is coming – the free lunch is over and the whole EU industry will need to get used to having to cut their fleet to reflect what is in their own waters – just as Britain’s distant water fleet on Humberside had to do when Iceland and Norway took control of their waters post-Cod War.

Welcome to rebalancing to international normality rather than the asset stripping of a nation which caused the collapse of our communities and generations of fishing heritage. The EU can take care of its own rebalancing problem just as it funded the building of the new EU fleet with our money. Our goal and the Government’s responsibility must be to put our national interests first, not those of the EU that we have now left.

Skipper Aaron Brown is a fifth generation Ayrshire fisherman (Achieve BF 233) who put forward the idea of a ‘Fishing For leave’ campaign that was immediately supported by a number of very experienced skippers and fishermen’s representatives from as far afield as Shetland, south to Newlyn, and from Fraserburgh across the Irish Sea to Kilkeel.

Was just curious because the old Minister Javid seemed to have a hard on for it.

No, you're not getting it. Read the rules you actually posted. Low skilled migrants are to be RESTRICTED. There's wage requirements (£25,600 from the top of me 'ead). A year long visa only for the low skilled allowed.

A rough calc of UK min wage based on £10 per hour and a 40 hour week (and I'm sure I'm being generous here) is a little over £20k per annum.

No recourse to public funds; no bringing the family over. The UK is going to be a much less attractive place for the low-skilled migrant. They'll all head to Ireland instead, which they'll enjoy with their housing crisis.
